There is no way that is a serious bidder. I am willing to believe that someone could buy it for the earlier amounts, but I find it extremely hard to believe that this person has 100mil in disposable funds.

If so he is overpaying since the jet only costs 50mil.

There was a small town near where I live up on eBay a few months ago (went for a few million if memory serves), so if you put that together with this Hornet, you could even have your own local air force. Doubt the government would let that fly, but it'd be worth a try.

Either that, or sit on your own aircraft carrier with your MiG and Hornet somewhere in international waters and pretend you're your own country.

Weird stuff happens when people have too much money.

Okay, 300+ bidders, top bid of $100M??? Hmm, maybe people started taking the advice in my earlier post and just started to bid this thing up for the hell of it! How does E-Bay police that, anyway? How do they actually verify the person bidding, especially when it comes to so much money like in this case?

I could see $1M, or even $8M being legitimate, but now this is just silly! Still amsuing though... 😎

Actually, most old US fighter planes end up stripped down and sold to the highest bidder. When I was in the Air Force, I was a crew chief on F-15's. When we were in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi's were flying our old "A" model F-15's from the early '70's. They bought them from us when we retired them. I asked some people about this and they told me that most of our old jets get purchased by other countries and used as training jets. Of course they are pretty stipped out with no avionics or armorments on them.

I meant third parties as in private citizens. I know that we sell new and used aircraft and other military vehicles to foreign governments.
