Heavily promoted Apple-produced film F1: The Movie is rolling out on the Apple TV app starting today, and it is available for purchase or rent in some countries.

Apple TV users in South Korea and Japan have reported seeing F1: The Movie available in the Apple TV store, but it does not appear to be available through the Apple TV+ streaming service as of yet.

In South Korea and Japan, it is already Friday, August 22, so it is possible that it won't be available in the U.S. until midnight Eastern time.

F1: The Movie launched in theaters on June 27, and it had a highly successful box office run. The film earned more than $500 million globally, making it Apple's highest-grossing theatrical release to date. Apple did a second theatrical run in August.

Ahead of when F1 launched in theaters, there was a relentless advertising campaign from Apple and other companies featured in the film. Apple ran ads on YouTube, sent Apple CEO Tim Cook and Brad Pitt to Apple Fifth Avenue, put a guide in the Maps app for well-known F1 racetracks, and even put ads for the movie in the built-in Wallet app and the Sports app, frustrating iPhone users.

It is not yet clear when F1: The Movie will be available for Apple TV+ subscribers.

It is available for purchase/rent in India. Think Apple will wait for a couple of months more before it is available for streaming. Watched it in IMAX and liked it very much. Might watch it again once it is streaming on TV+

F1 movie was actually a decent success for Apple. Therefore, the Apple+ subs will be a mere afterthought.

Interesting that Apple TV + subscribers get no benefits here. Makes the new fees for Apple TV + even less acceptable. Such is life.
You will get the benefit, you just don't have it YET. There is definitely a difference. They are allowing the movie to make its money in the theater and through purchasing before making it free to stream. All Apple movies, whether they have been in theaters or not, have always made it to Apple TV+ for streaming and this should be no exception. In fact once it is streaming you can bet Apple will advertise it is available for those with the subscription to draw in more subs.

I liked the movie quite a bit! I also have been an F1 fan for quite a while. I think I am in the minority though. I think most F1 fans don't like the "non realistic" elements to the movie, but it is a MOVIE and needs to entertain you in a fairly short period of time. While I think there is no pleasing everyone, I do think they did a good job of trying to make something that non-fans and fans can enjoy, even if a lot of fans are being very picky! 😂

I will wait to purchase it until the price comes down, however long that takes. Hopefully it will be streaming by Christmas!

It's funny that Apple TV+ subscribers must buy an Apple TV+ movie. No discount, no special deal for subscribers. Full price just like everyone else.

Would've feel gutted if somehow it's included for TV+ stream sometime in the future.

From the promo page in the Apple TV app, clearly shows the Apple TV + logo, and when you tap it it takes you to the Apple TV + page. So is safe to assume it will be available to subscribers.

Kind of weak that you can't watch an Apple TV movie for free when you pay for the streaming service. I would guess that was the drug deal they made for Apple studios to get the film. I can see that on a direct to streaming movie, but this thing had a long stretch in the theaters.

Sounds like Amazon’s Prime Video business model. Charge a monthly subscription, and then charge again to access the best content.

The next step in the Prime Video playbook is to introduce ads. Apple already started annoyingly advertising their own shows in front of everything you try to watch, so extending this to full-on commercials might not be that far off…
