MacBook Pro Retina, just recently installed High Sierra. I've found that I can no longer use F7, F8 and F9 in iTunes for Previous Track, Play/Pause and Next Track, respectively. I found a fix for this issue related to Google Chrome hijacking the function keys, but I do not use Google Chrome so that's not it. Under System Preferences/Keyboard I have the "Use F1, F2, etc. as standard keys" box unchecked, which was another solution I found while researching.

Not sure what else could be disabling my function keys from working in iTunes. Any suggestions or solutions?

Did actual function keys ever worked with iTunes? I though iTunes is controlled via the multimedia keys?

I found a way to fix this without needing a third-party app, thanks to Lutarisco on reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/cpwsws )
In case the link doesn't work for whatever reason, in summary, you need to add the ItunesHelper to the Login Items:

First, find the ItunesHelper.app in Finder:
/Applications/iTunes.app/Contents//MacOS/iTunesHelper.app
*Right-Click iTunes app in Applications > Show Package Contents to access Contents folder

Then open:
System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items

Drag and Drop ItunesHelper into Login Items. (I couldn't access the iTunes content folder from the Login Items menu so this was easier)

Hopefully this works for you too!
It is unbelieavable that Apple has never fixed this.
And I agree! Loved having 3 frequently used keys become useless. But now I can vibe again without needing to download other apps to allow pause and skip to function as intended. A small oversight with annoying results.
