I recently sold my iPhone X because I’m going to get a 6.5 inch iPhone when it’s available. In the meantime I’m using an old iPhone 6s I had laying around and I miss Face ID terribly.

I went to the gym yesterday morning and sweat prevented me from using Touch ID properly, fail.

It has been raining the last couple of days here in NY, a little bit of water on your finger and Touch ID doesn’t work, fail.

Any little particle on your finger and Touch ID doesn’t work, fail!!!

These are issues I didn’t have with Face ID which would work on all of the conditions above. But what I would give Touch ID over Face ID is speed, that’s one thing I miss but still would not go back to it if I had a choice.

Anybody in a similar situation? I know many are selling their X in preparation for the new phones.

I only wish you could map more than one face. Yes I know it is supposed to be your phone but it is convenient to have a finger print of the other half on the phone

Face ID hasn't been perfect for me, but I can definitely see it's advantages over Touch ID already. When you can make authentication almost invisible to the user instead of physical input, that is clearly the way to go. Hoping for Face ID 2 with landscape, faster unlock, and more extreme angles. We'll see.

I’ve found Touch ID on my 8 Plus to work very well most of the time. I had the X for only a month and Face ID was nice when it worked, but it was kind of fussy. I’d rather have both options if Apple does decide to develop some patents it had filed awhile back for in display Touch ID. However that endeavor is likely dead.

I would love to see the same enhancements on Face ID and think it’s very likely like Touch ID v.2 improved on speed too.

HAHAHA, OMG!

I sold my iPhone X and using iPhone 6 and boy, I'm missing Face ID like way too much.

Lots of people really don't value Face ID has a huge upgrade but indeed it it. And it's not only for just unlocking iPhone but used for passwords, logins, payments etc. I mean overall it's a great tech and we are into the future of just looking at the screen and things are done. Touch ID is annoying and every time you have to touch the iPhone is just ridiculous.

i'm just hoping that there will be more viewing angles to unlock face ID. I didn't like the angle limitation in the way that you had to hold the phone to your face to unlock. In certain situations it made it difficult, or i would be frustrated with face ID not unlocking because it wasn't direct enough on my face.

I still like it more than Touch ID though, i hated that. Mostly because i'm always washing my hands or eating, so my touch ID would fail to work multiple times a day.

Both forms of biometric verification work differently for different people. I can honestly say I’ve never had issues with TouchID and sweaty or dirty fingers, but then again, for the sake of not messing up my phone I generally wipe my hands off before attempting to use it if they are particularly wet or dirty.

Well I was one of those who didn’t go for the iPhone X because I didn’t wanna lose my Touch ID. I’m still toying with sticking with my 8+ because of it, although I’m leaning more towards jumping on the new phone bandwagon than I was a few weeks ago.

I have never had much of an issue with my Touch ID at all.

If your hands are dirty, Touch ID doesn't work. I've had issues when my hands are sweaty and I'm unable to clean quickly, Touch ID never worked and it's obvious, there's nothing wrong in it. It's Touch after all.

With Face ID, that's not the case at all. Even if I'm sleepy, iPhone unlocks and with someone else's face, it never does. At least that has never happened with me.

As I said, it varies by person. Some people have issues with FaceID when wearing sunglasses or immediately after waking up. Some people don’t. Similarly, some people have issues with TouchID when their hands are sweaty and some don’t. Which is better depends on the person and the situation, that’s all.

My preference for TouchID was a big part of the reason why I chose an 8 Plus over the X as well, and it doesn’t look like any of this year’s models will provide a compelling reason to upgrade. I’ll probably get on board with FaceID in 2019.

My iPhone X Face ID unlock was 2x fastest, just look at it and unlock ! No jokes after JB.

Face ID's been good for the most part, but as expected, it can be improved from its initial iteration;

• Landscape functionality
• Improved angle for face detection (on flat surfaces, to negate the need to tilt up phone)
• Speed
• Consistent repeat scans, after an initial failure - I find it doesn't always repeat scan on many occasions

Yeah as someone who initially hated the thought of Face ID and losing Touch ID, I'm now a believer. I don't think the accuracy is better, and even worse in many cases, but I still love it. What I would love would be to have a toggle to turn off the necessity to have to swipe the screen after Face ID recognizes me.

Face ID to me still is in the acceptance for many, because some are not aware know of its capabilities and even the measures behind how 3-D facial mapping works, and it really is a seamless experience. I think once Apple broadens their spectrum with offering now three new iPhones this year all with Face ID, it will allow the user to hopefully experience what Face ID is capable of, and any improvements that might come with this year‘s models.

Love Face ID for passwords! Touch ID doesn’t work well for me. Face ID works way better for me.

You do realize, of course, that you still have to touch your iPhone before you can use Face ID.

Not for the notifications. And it's just a swipe up. What's annoying is to touch that button every time and it takes good 2-3 seconds. I'm not saying I'm being impatient but the overall experience of having Face ID over Touch ID is big difference and those seconds do count in it.

I'll tell you why people don't like Face ID.

- While driving you have to look at the iPhone to unlock so that's dangerous sometimes.
- While eating food, you can't unlock cause then you have to hold your iPhone properly and then unlock while in Touch ID you can just clean your thumb and easily unlock and start using iPhone with one finger
- While waking up in the morning your eyes have not opened up entirely as one is still sleepy so it doesn't unlock all the time.

But when it comes to day to day usage, Touch ID is annoying. Face ID is a breeze and it saves lot of time. Not just unlocking phone. Downloading apps, passwords, login to my Hilton/Marriott apps or Banking apps like AMEX. Even for Payments Face ID works like a breeze. So if I can do so many things just by looking at the phone, I don't really care about above points I mentioned. There will always be some downside but when you have so many positive points, I guess we can easily live with those few negative sides.

All the reasons mentioned by the OP and gloves. Anyone in a cold climate and/or that wears gloves in the winter will tell you Touch ID is the worst. Granted you need the kind that work with touch screens but even if you had those, Touch ID doesn't work. You'd have to take your gloves off. Something not may people want to do when it's below freezing.
