It would have been awfully nice of Apple to install the True Depth Camera offset instead of centering the lenses. In portrait I often find my hands covering the camera.

The iPad is still designed with portrait usage in mind, which can be shown by seeing the Apple logo orientation during boot up.
Also, no matter where Apple put the camera, there is always a chance your hand will cover the camera. Unit

Well, I think Apple should have included TWO Face ID modules—one on a short side and one on a long—so that no matter which way you hold the iPad one will be able to see you.

Which greatly increases its likelihood of being covered by fingers. With that being said, some whiners will say “hey, but this iPad looks sexy”.
Guess we have another split here.

I'd be intrigued by something like this. Apple might even be able to make it more useful by providing different types of cameras(like on the dual camera on the other side) or even taking advantage of dual cameras for AR or to improve image quality somehow. However, it would likely include some engineering challenges. At a device that costs in the range of $800-$1,500 I think Apple can afford to add a component like this.
Because I use a keyboard, I don't have the same problems as many of you. But if it was offset, I'm sure others would've complained about it being asymmetrical. As Jobs once said, "You can please some of the people, some of the times."
