Hi everyone,

I’m so happy to say that my Face ID is the same speed as my Touch ID on my iPhone 7 Plus.

When I first got the iPhone X, the Face ID was slower. But then after the extensive use of Face ID. It has gotten a lot faster and now it’s the same speed as my Touch ID on iPhone 7 Plus now.

Anyone else has the same experience as me?

I did some informal comparisons last weekend with my 7 and my X. My impression was that they were basically unlocking the phone at the same speed, or so close that I couldn't tell the difference. I was checking because I had the impression that FaceID was taking longer than TouchID - as far as I can tell by eye, they're the same, which is good.

Yeah. At the beginning when I swipe up, there is this spinning loading icon before the phone unlocks. But now it instantly unlocks

After reading all the complaints about how Face ID was so much slower and an inconvenience... I was pleasantly surprised to find that Face ID seems generally faster to me than touch ID in real word use. I don't have issues with glasses, sun glasses, or brighter sun light... it seems to just work for me. The added benefit of not worried about wet fingers makes this a game change for me.

100% agree

On pure speed, to me they look the same. TouchID still has the advantage of being able to be used in any orientation, and the disadvantage of needing bare, dry and relatively clean hands. Question: I keep meaning to test this, but haven't: will the X wake up if tapped with regular, low-tech gloves?

TouchID is much faster for me due to the way I take the phone out of my pocket. I’m unlocking my phone as I’m bringing it towards my face. TouchID is as fast as possible for my technique.

That said, FaceID is still pretty quick, but I would prefer the option to have your face unlock directly to the home screen, instead of requiring a swipe. Neither systems are doom and gloom. They both have their advantages.

I also went from 7+ to X. Personally, my experience is that Face ID is as fast or faster than touch. As soon as I tap the screen I can swipe, and the phone unlocks and opens the home screen in one motion. For sites that need it, the fact that it is automatic means I don't have to move my thumb--it just opens. So I agree with your thoughts--except that mine was fast from day 1.
