So today finally got below freezing in northeast, and just realized the best part of Face ID...I CAN FINALLY UNLOCK MY PHONE WITHOUT TAKING OFF MY GLOVES!

I was "meh" this whole week about face ID but this finally got me excited about it haha.

Cool.

Yeah the cold has come in quick in NY. We'll see how it manages once your face is partially obscured with a hat and scarf.

EDIT: poster above beat me too it, haha

That is awesome! Obvious, but never thought about that.

I got an iPhone 8 in September, couldn't wait for the X. But super excited now... just have to wait until next September for the X2... boo :(

And what are you doing with your iPhone X if its unlocked and you can't use it with gloves on?

Don't get me wrong, I love FaceID and my iPhone X but only unlocking without taking off the gloves isn't such a big deal, is it?

FWIW, I did a super informal "Face obscuring test" with FID, I put up a hood, sunglasses, wrapped a bandana around my neck, pulled it up to my mouth (kind of like a scarf). It worked!

I mean, there's a point where I pulled it up to cover my nose and it didn't (where your face is 75%+ covered) but I think I'd rather pull down a scarf a touch.

Ah ok, i had such touch-screen-enabled-gloves last year, but it was far away from a comfortable usage of the iPhone.

Maybe I have to look for some new ones ;)

It’s fine. It has been snow covered and -10 to -20 C here since I got my X on November 3. My X unlocks even with my toque on to my eyebrows, my chin covered with a scarf/jacket, and my aviator sunglasses on.

Touch sensitive gloves. Work with swipes and other gestures...but not Touch ID. I have a few pairs stashed around!

I was thinking the same lol but I don’t even own gloves and live in New England. Come to think about it I don’t even own a winter coat.

it’s fine with a hat.. i’ve been doing that the past few days.
i assume it won’t work when it’s so cold that you put your scarf across your mouth& nose.

not that cold yet but i’m not expecting it to work.

also, the display might not work when it’s 4° (F) outside

More comfortable than using it with frost bitten fingers! But seriously, touch sensitive gloves vary in quality.

Face ID works pretty well. Not good enough for a full face mask, but enough that I can be brushing my teeth and it will unlock, or I was sitting in the chair watching TV and pulled the neck of my sweatshirt up over my chin to lower lip and it worked for that as well.

So a scarf should be ok.
