I've hit the point where I'm not comfortable continuing with Aperture and I need to finally make a call on an alternative. I'm 90% of the way toward choosing Capture One.

The one feature I wish it had, but it doesn't, is facial recognition. That feature in Aperture saved me a fair amount of keywording.

Is there a third party tool available that can perform a similar function? I'd want something that holds all data local and doesn't share images or private data to the cloud...

Mylio will do it. Lightroom will do it. Save that metadata to the images and C1 could see it, but whether it can deal with people keywords and especially the metadata for where the faces are within the photo is another question. Lr and Mylio put it in the same place in XMP IIRC. You could use Lr for free (since that isn't part of the application that shuts down after the trial period), and Mylio for free up to a certain number of images that are JPEGs. Both work on the desktop.

I'm assuming you didn't want Photos to do it?
