I updated my iPod Touch last week and have not been able to use Facetime since. I keep getting this face time error message "An error occurred during activation. Try Again".

When I check settings and tap facetime, a blank screen appears.
If I tap the facetime button on front screen, then tap "Turn Face Time On", I get the error message.

Any answers to my problem would be helpful. Thx.

My daughters iPod Touch is doing the exact same thing and I can't seem to figure it out either. I'm doing a complete restore now. I'll let you know if it works.

Date & time

Make sure the date and time are set correctly. I just fixed my fathers iPod. His date was January 1970. It worked as soon as I corrected it.

Time Error

I had the same problem. I set the time correctly and it worked fine. The date was set to January 12, 1970. Apparently iPod/Pad/Phone devices use Unix time (also called Posix time) which on the machine itself is the number of seconds since midnight, January 1st 1970. The device is kind enough to show it to you in Month/Day/Year/TimeOfDay format, but if somehow the time gets reset back to "0" it will show you a date in 1970, the actual month and day would then indicate how long ago it was reset to "0". So in my case, the time was somehow reset to "0" about 2 weeks ago.

So when you log in to Facetime with your Apple ID, the server must check the date/time on your device and if it sees a date like 1970 it rejects the login.

I`ve been going crazy wondering why my Ipod wouldn`t Facetime anymore after restoring it. I changed my Apple ID soo many times but it would still refuse to verify my email..
Then one day i notice my emails were off by 3 hours ....
Come to figure out my time was set right except in the right city but i a time zone which was a 3 hour difference to mine. As soon as i changed it ...it logged in !

Worked Perfectly

My son's Ipad 2 Facetime and Imessage stopped working all of a sudden. Have read all sorts of forums to no avail. Until the post about making sure the time is set correctly. My son always changes his time so he can use the bomb thing on Angry Birds. Thanks for the tip!!!!

I checked my dates, did a respring, restart, edit dns, reset settings and still no luck. Please help. I don't want to restore yet.
