Do you think before you type? At all?? Any developer with any sense would enable push notifications for messages/friend requests/things directly related to the user... There's no way a developer would have the server power to handle pushing all status updates.

He's right Oskee - get out of 2001 and get back into 2009...

..and to all the guys who say "what will flaming the creator do?" - it may encourage him to set his alarm clock one hour earlier a day and maybe he wont take that lunch break..he's been slacking..

As for all those that say the app is fine as it is - here is a quote from your Joe: "Used the current shipping version of my app for the first time in a while tonight... wow. it's terrible now that I'm so used to the new one."

P.S. Just to anyone else out there who's sticking up for the developer - I'm taking a huge dump right now, and I'm about 98% through, except I don't know how much longer I'm actually going to be, because I have no concept of time - thus I may be another two months..Thanks.
 
Wow very harsh following you have Joe!

I would acknowledge that you probably under estimated the work required to finish the job, but man!! I would very much hope you are getting paid for the work because I'd leave all this work for dead or start charging for the application with this kind of following.

Although I'd have to agree with some comments made. Certainly from the point of view of the number of developers working on this project. Considering that Facebook would not be a company short for cash at all, I would think they'd be wanting this project done smoothly and quickly also.

But then again, perhaps the company itself doesn't really care about its users. (sounds a bit like the local largest Telco Telstra)

If indeed Joe is employed by Facebook then I think the flaming should be addressed to Facebook itself. As has been pointed out, the development on their web based system certainly leaves a lot to be desired. Yet still users stay. I wonder why that is.

Personally I've given up on Facebook and most likely won't be using it again. The experience is just too frustrating both on the iPhone and the web.

Developers can't give a date, whenever it gets through the approval process is when.

No it has not been sent.

Just a reminder that Facebook is living off Venture Capitalist money.

Looks like he's still a long way away..

He might as well incorporate push into it now..

I do wish he told us more about what he was doing with the app. These updates come once in a blue moon. Maybe if he told us what he was doing - a lot more people here would seem sympathetic..
 
I'm sympathetic, I mean, he's working Saturday nights on the next update, and I don't doubt he's trying to get it perfect. He even stated that he wants to get people past the memory of a past buggy update, and bugs as I've heard from all developers takes a lot of time to find and fix.
 
Is there really just one guy working on this? You would think that with all of the loot facebook has, there would be a team of developers working on this thing and adding features constantly. It is a decent app I guess, but there is a lot of stuff that doesn't show up nearly as well as it does on the web version.
 
I'm just being patient with this app because I think he's making it worth our wait. I'm excited to see a couple of features that he hasnt announced once it's released. I just hope it's ready by the time I go back to college 😛
 
I'm not a violent man... but I feel like slapping everyone who comes into this thread just to rephrase a question that's unanswerable.

examples that make me wanna go on a slapping spree:

Does anyone know what 98% mean?
How long does a last 2% take?
When will this be out?
What will it take to get this out the door?
Why doesn't facebook care about its users?
Does anyone know the inner workings of facebook?
Approximately how much time from this very moment will it take to release this?
Has anyone announced a date when they'll announce when they'll submit
the app?
Why doesn't facebook care about us?

it's like crack addicts waiting for the next hit.

It's sad, I know, but I'm excited. I do prefer using FB on my Touch, when it works. Much better UI and all. If this is really even better, I'm happy. Keep it up Joe! 😎

Well, assuming translation takes 2 days or so, and review is 2 weeks then we are still talking about a release date near the end of August.
 
I can not wait for FB 3.0. Gonna be awesome. Really hoping for video publishing... You think its gonna come out by the time 3.1 comes out?

2 weeks for the review? No. Not for Facebook.

2.0 took like 3 days after it was submitted to be approved. Facebook is used by 25% of app iPhone users (Joe said so).
