Of course, with the name Facebook attached to Rooms it will be extremely popular.

Paper is successful even if it might not be "mainstream" or popular/known amongs the general masses.

I don't really like the setup of the app. It feels more like a group Instagram, not a chat app. I thought it would be a general room where people could talk. Instead it's about posting square photos or messages in square shaped boxes and then others replying and liking. Just doesn't feel like the chat I remember

This app has been around for many months now. "Chattir" has been developed by a one man team. Of course, with the name Facebook attached to Rooms it will be extremely popular. Where is the love for individual developers? I do my best to try and support them, the work done by a small team with finite resources is much more impressive then the work done by a team with infinite time and money.

The link to Chattir on the App Store:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chattir/id889585119?ls=1&mt=8

Why should Chattir get attention and not one of the probably hundreds of other similar apps?

If only to make Messenger give me push notifications and not Facebook, I like that they're separate. I hardly ever use my Facebook account for anything other than messaging... on their old-fashioned system that's worse than AIM but is so popular that I have to use it.

Chat rooms are so last decade. Heck... they're so 90's! Who goes to chat rooms anymore in this age of Skype and iMessage?

iMessage and Skype are not "rooms", they are one on one or group convos with people that are in your contacts. Chat rooms were more about going into something with 20+ people, who you don't necessarily know and just talking about whatever comes up.

Facebook is a company to generate profit. It is not on the business of being a good samaritan.

They throw free food to get something in exchange.

Facebook, Google and Adobe don't come close to my machines.

What company is out there not to get anything in exchange?

Just what we need. Another place people can act foolish through the protection of anonymity.

The internet should require your real name for posts.

Interesting that you still choose not to use your real name here on macrumors.

Yes, because everything should be as boring as real life, because... Well, why exactly?

I guess what you are saying confirms only boring people get bored.
You have to pretend and act like someone else to have a good time..?
I think within the facebook app itself there is enough fakery and misrepresentation.

Is this a joke?

Facebook and "anonymous" in the same sentence? It's either a joke or the Facebook folks think we are all morons. If they store data on their servers, they know the user Ids attached to them...

And what does knowing a random user IDs mean? MacRumors (and probably thousands if not millions of other random forum and online communication sites online) has random user IDs associated with posts that are stored, and what then?
