I think you are missing the point. If I remember correctly, iOS will flush the cache if you want to download music, there is no need for the user to do any of this thus no need for a flush cache option. The OS will/can take care this as you use your phone. Just becasue you don't see a reson for caching, doesn't mean that others (like me) don't use it.

I really wonder about this if this applies to all kind of actions/app (photo, video, music, 3rd party apps with offline music, 3rd party offline podcasts.

I understand that there is already a cache feature and that this is well though out by Apple and is pretty good in the way it works (a lot better then Android) and that it offers many advantages for many users.

I don't say that it should be removed as it is but please give the user a bit more options to clear cache per app(s) in a way that works for the each user and their specific demands.

You're still able to download them. They usually come in chunks below 100 MB. I guess some developers haven't fixed this but Facebook and messenger download fine on my phone without wifi.

I would like an option to turn this limit off though as I have 20 GB of data each month.

You'd think with so many people going to unlimited data now, Apple would at least up it to 200 mb. 300 even better.

I don't use its app not because of the size but because of updates, it is updating every week. what a piece of. I use safari to check facebook. That's it.

Try Friendly +. It's a great Facebook client. It has a built in ad blocker, multiple accounts, Instagram, and a dark theme option. I love the dark theme. I've been using it for several years.

Yeah I found out that Facebook app doesn't use this.

Ridiculous that there is a 100 MB limit. No word on iOS 11 to my knowledge.

The facebook app is getting unreasonably bloated IMO. They keep adding crap that most people arn't using like Marketplace. Give me a lightweight 60MB version and I'll be very happy.

The last time when I used the free version of this app I didn't like the way it works. The UI isn't the best I think. I've downloaded it again and will give it another try. Filesize and news sorting is super!

it's using 530MB on mine. going to delete and and re-install it. off note but why are they allowed to have updates and not show what they're updating on the notes? every version history is the same.

FWIW - just logging out went from 530MB to 328.6MB. with documents & data going from 300.6MB to 99.1MB.

The Facebook app takes up 200MB. Why would it use so much space when it gets data (mostly) from the web?

P.s. I think this is the right place.

I use Friendly+ instead. Its like 20 mb and it also includes an adblocker, touch id support and the possibility to set most recent as default

I just bought the Pro app last week and I like all the features it has. There are quite a lot of nice settings. Although I still think the UI could be more intuitive.

The most recent view, ad blocking and download video options are great aside of the small size of the app and the option to delete cache.

Or you just access Facebook via Safari with the ad blocker - a great combo not clogging up your device at all.

It does take getting used to. I beta test the free version and have the paid version as well. Once I got used to the differences, I liked it. The free version doesn't have the built in ad blocker. The dark theme took some getting used to. It seemed odd on Facebook. But I like it now. Friendly will build up cache some, but it has an option in it's settings to delete it.

I'm getting used to it more the Friendly plus app. It does seem a bit slower then the standard Facebook app but that is maybe because of blocking all the ads and stuff you don't want to see.

and users complain when things take a second or two to load. It is a double edged sword. Caching allows you to also view things while you are offline giving you some functionality while internet isn't available.

And developers don't always take the time to learn best practices, leading to bloated and inefficient code.

Which has nothing to do with my comment....

Some developers are lazy, but I highly doubt these are working for companies like Facebook.

My remark helped validate your point. If developers don't learn best practices and end up writing bloated and inefficient code, users complain that it takes too long to load.

Is there a way to delete it without removing the app?

Thx

I just had this same question in another thread and someone recommended I try Magic Cleaner. He said it may take several times to really clean the phone. I did just the way he said and it worked great.

I had to do it numerous time but it cleaned and made almost a third of my storage available.
