Oh God that payments thing sounds like a nightmare. When I was on FB, I was getting hit up for donations to every relative or friend's pet cause or they'd get some GoFundMe sob story sent to them and pass it to me, or my adult nieces and nephews wanted money for their kids camps and whatnot. Sometimes people legitimately need a bit of help. But there are definitely others who clearly have an entitlement problem...that they intend to make your problem. Chronically.
I am not stingy and did help if there was a decent enough connection to good friends, but if you have enough friends and relatives it adds up especially if they are collecting not for themselves but one of their friends or relatives you don't even know.
So FB has some nerve interjecting itself into these excruciatingly awkward conversations about money. Go. The. Bleep. Away.
I have thought about it a lot. How people I've known over 25 years and always gotten along well with in other times and places and contexts made me want to smack them on FB. I don't believe it's anything really wrong with my friends. FB seems engineered or works in a way to make people annoying as crap. They are still the same people I've known and loved. It's the extras on FB that they naively go full throttle on that are annoying. Like the friend who used to poke me on FB all the time. For what? Why? Jeez. She'd get upset if I didn't poke back, even if I just talked to her five minutes before on her page.
FB really is where we go to turn into our crazy old aunts and uncles.
