Just wiped my account, but TBH I still feel happy for the guys who made the app. Congratulations to them for making something so successful they actually sold it for $1 billion. That's like my dream.

whaha, all the people never wanting to use it anymore:) Hipsters:)

There's some truth to it though...

Instagram is now becoming what lens flare was in Photoshop back in the late 90's. After a while, you just acknowledge it as a filter that's had it's day.

Okay, whatever. I don't even use Instagram.

But a BILLION dollars? How in the hell can it be worth that much???

You can do pretty much the same thing with Twitter!

Yeah it's basically twitter pics with filters. And most of the pics are just girls taking cleavage shots of themselves so people will comment

The app market is funny to me. Every app that hits #1 gets bought out for a crapload of money by Google, FB, EA, or Zynga. Even though they're not complicated and are riding hype that will die out in 6 months

Bubble...

Guys guys guys....come on, if Facebook uses the same engineers who work on their Facebook app to work on Instagram you know it's gonna work perfectly

Now my mom can be a hipster :p

Does anyone know what the user usage/privacy rights are for instagram? Is it similar to "all rights reserved" for the "photographer" or do the instagram people have access to your images and can use them as they please (creative commons license)?

Any recommendations for a replacement app?

Streamzoo is the only thing that comes to mind. Back before Android got Instagram my Droid-totin' friend would mock my IG posts via his own posts on Streamzoo. Android finally gets their own IG app and a handful of days later FB bastardizes it. I think there's some irony here...

Read the entire article, it explains that they will remain completely separate.

That's what they always say. I have been through several acquisitions myself and they always say 'we won't change anything' - for either people or product sake - and at some point it falls all apart due to pressure of the share holder or people who have the highest stake in a company.

To the people stating that Instagram is just a way to apply overused filters to mundane photographs: Well, in the hands of boring people, that's what it is.

But to many others, it's a way to share photos and view photo streams from other people that you find interesting. There's a well-constructed social aspect that's missing from other photo filter apps. And for every lame filtered photo of a rusty fire hydrant there are ten truly interesting or beautiful photos. I use Camera+ to tastefully augment my photos then I share them on Instagram, and I have a lot of fun doing it.

I'm not thrilled with today's news but it'll be interesting to see what Facebook does with it.

You know what would be insane, is if Apple and Google canned the app to destroy facebook

-- the craziest part of this btw is the $1 billion price tag. So.. scientific right? I mean I'm sure a solid group of financial analysts looked at this for a long time and concluded that the real value of this company is $1,000,000,000.00 ...

This is soo .com bubble

Dear Instagram,

You had a good run. Prepare for lavatorial decline. All the best, because, well, frankly, you'll need it.

Mark Z says it won't change. And, I mean, he's got such a great track record of telling the truth, right? So I believe him. I mean, it makes total sense to spend $1 Billion and keep it free and unchanged right? Something's gotta pay the bills on that nugget and it will be YOU.

What's all the hubbub about?

All is wel here hipsters and hipstets, as long as they don't force you to sign in with a Facebook account. What's the worse that could happen? That they add Instagram picks to your timeline?(If you even use Facebook at all)

First Android support.

Then Android get's tablet support before the iPad. Even though nobody uses Android tablets.

And now today they sellout to Facebook.

Good for the folks at Instagram, but a sad day for the end user.

Ehh. I'm not really that worried about Instagram. I'll still use it. I did like the idea of it being separate and private, but it was inevitable that at some point a huge tech company would buy them. In a weird way I'm jsort of glad it's Facebook and not Apple/Android/Microsoft. At least this way the app will continue to be available for multiple devices.
