    I had been using Adium as a client for Facebook instant chat.

    Apparently Facebook changed their API this week, and Adium may not update to it.

    SO, does anyone have any recommendations for a new client to use?

    I use Astro Messenger. Pretty simple and lightweight.

    I just use Messages for this although infrequently and it's worked fine. Maybe other more elaborate apps might offer features you'd like but I wouldn't know about those myself. I just answer chat messages to me usually.

    Yes.

    Under Messages->Preferences->Accounts

    Add an account of the account type: Jabber (this is the protocol FB uses)

    Enter you FB chat Account Name: xxxxxx@chat.facebook.com

    Password: (your password here)

    This should work just fine. I opened my Messages friends list now and I see two of my Facebook Friends online who I could send a message to if I liked.

    well that worked, but it's constantly disconnecting and doesn't seem to actually get messages from FB.

    Messages works fine for me, occasionally have to log it back in but other than that all good except it doesn't do images...

    I am using https://www.messenger.com/ on Safari. Also I have enabled safari notifications. Thus as soon as message received safari notification popped up.
