It's not that often live photos impress me, but when they do, they do. It's a nice option to have. If the video adds nothing to it, its easy to get rid of. So... Yeah. I'm happy to be able to share the ones that the video adds to the photo.

I thought that until I took a vacation and then quickly realised it's absolutely amazing when I got home and started to look through my photos.

When I got home from Hawaii I looked at my photos in Google Drive. Some of them had a star. Turns out when I took a series of photos of a whale breaching the water it put them together and animated them. I had a few stared photos.

My last trip I took my wife to Ireland with side trip to Paris. When we got home I noticed some multi gigabyte files. Turns out when I would turn my camera on it would record video all the time I was panning around zooming or anything else I did with the camera. I also has audio so I could hear the click when I took a picture. You have your 3 second video. I have almost a complete video walk through of Trim castle and other places. Also have a video of the Eifel tower flashing lights.

Just edit the live picture on the phone - this removes the live aspect.
That doesn't remove the Live part, just mark it so the phone won't play when you 3D touch. You can revert anytime. Lean removes the video part permanently (I made Lean).

Lean is a wonderful app, it also does let you batch remove liveness for free.

Life photos are fantastic. A smiling photo of my 4 year old suddenly turns into him seeing me, covering his eyes, and saying "stop it!" That captures a memory and the laughs with it far better than a still shot and much simpler than a video...

This. There will be bad Live Photos but a single good one is more than enough reason to keep it on permanently.

Great for the ones that actually like Live photos and FB. Enjoy

I deleted the Fecbook app a month ago for egregious use in background even when background refresh is disabled. I haven't looked back since.

The difference between this method and using an app like Lean is that your method doesn't delete the video elements from the phone. This might be an issue for those concerned with space. (Sorry, looks like this has already been covered)

It already does so on the photos my wife sends me from her 6s to my 6. It shows the nested circles on each live photo for me.

Yes, I know Peter. But what I mean is that I can't see a symbol for the Live Pictures in my own Albums in my photo app. When I send Live Pics via iMessages, then the symbols are displayed. I find that a bit strange.

Hmm, interesting. I juist had a look and photos that were shared are visible with a symbol in the activity stream, but indeed in my own albums the symbol is absent too. Strange inconsistency. Must be an oversight.

Actually this article is wrong, there is an app that lets you take live photos with any IOS device that runs 9. I use it on my 6 on a regular basis. In addition, you can export your live photos as GIF, movies, or other formats to share with non IOS users:
Camera for Live Photos (https://appsto.re/us/QBSP-.i)

Just wondering that when will this feature roll out for everybody, I cannot see the option yet

Reminds me of a feature I used in an early to mid 2000 DLink web security camera that allows a motion detection trigger to save video a few secs prior and after an event then send it to you either as video or series of photos.
