Facebook integration - eliminating emails, but keeping banner alerts...

Im sick of all the emails Facebook sends me so I've turned them off. I'd still like to get banner notifications when people post on my way/etc, but thats not happening. Is there a way to eliminate emails while keeping banner notifications?
