I just picked up the new iPT5 and downloaded all the app updates, including the latest Facebook mobile app from iTunes. I successfully configured and logged into both the integrated iOS 6 Facebook account and the separate mobile Facebook app.

However, when I get an email that includes a link to FB, the link opens in the mobile Safari browser and asks me to (1) log into my FB account via Safari or; (2) download the FB app from the app store - which I've already installed and logged into. When I click on the link to download the FB mobile app, the app store opens and then finally realizes that I already have the app installed. At that point, the app store provides a button to "open" the app, instead of "install" it.

I've looked through all the settings and I can't find a way to make the device open FB email links using the FB mobile app instead of the mobile Safari browser.

I've tried re-booted the device, un-installing the FB mobile app and then re-installing it, logging in and out of the mobile app, etc. Nothing has worked.

Any suggestions?

As far as I know, web links always open in Safari (could be wrong though).

What Facebook doesn't appear to have implemented yet is checking if you've downloaded their app and offering that "Open" button from within Safari, as opposed to (or in addition to) the App Store. Twitter has this, along with a number of other sites/apps. See attachments below. Perhaps Facebook is working on it...

It's late March 2015 and this problem still exists in iOS 8.2, FB App version 26.0, and is infuriating! Frankly, I find it unacceptable that this could be considered Facebook's responsibility: AFAIC, if I have the FB app installed on my iPhone and I click on an FB icon, Safari should never be involved, the response should be to use the FB app, period, and it should be iOS that sees to this. (If I want to open a Facebook link in Safari, then I can open Safari and put the url in there, but, given that the FB app is optimized, including feature endowment, to handle FB content, it should be the default for handling FB links, not a generic browser like Safari). I'm taking this thread as confirmation that this is indeed a bug in iOS (i.e., that there isn't some setting that I've missed) and submittling a bug report. Shame on you, Apple!

My links have been opening within the FB app for a long time now, across a number of devices. Seems less likely that it's some sort of an iOS bug that's involbed here.

What particular device are we talking about here, in case that might play some role in it all?

I have the same problem (or at least a very similar one) . Running iOS 9.2 and Facebook version 46.0.0.54.156(0).

When I click on a link in Mail, Safari opens and I get the message "Open this page in Facebook? with the responses to Open or Cancel. The message stays up for less than a second and then it appears to cancel itself and the Facebook page opens in Safari.

Same issues as below. I have iPhone 6s with all apps and firmware updated. My FB app does NOT open from mail links if I am not logged into Facebook.

When I open the app, I do not have to login. If I am logged into FB I have no option that flashes for the one second to tell it to open the app. It only goes to FB full safari version.

Is there any way to set the FB app as the default for mail links?

[doublepost=1478538020][/doublepost]I have the same problem that happened suddenly. It may have been after one of those "improvement" updates that put a lot of gimmicky crap on my phone that i don't want or need. I chatted online with an Apple tech who was unable to help me. Iphone seems to have a lot of issues lately!

[doublepost=1478538678][/doublepost]I just figured out the solution. I deleted browsing history and cookies in safari settings, and i can now link directly link to fb from email. Good luck!
