Since upgrading my phone (64GB 5s, AT&T), I've been noticing some strange behavior between Facebook, Messenger and the new iOS, wondering if anyone else has noticed this or could recommend a fix.

Before, when someone would send me a message on FB, I would get a notification in Messanger, and tapping the item (either the banner when it came up or later through the notification center) would bring my to the Messanger app. Now, incoming messages bring up a Facebook notification, and tapping it opens Facebook which then would auto-redirect to the Messanger app. I can't find any setting nativly or in the apps to fix this behavior.

Have you checked your Facebook mobile notification settings to make sure they aren't enabled for messages?

All I did was update from iOS9 to iOS10, no settings in FB or Messenger should've changed. But I did just go into FB to check and there isn't even an option for notifications for messages. And why would there be? That was the whole point of splitting to 2 separate apps.

I've pretty much always had that option there and still do, not sure why you don't have it.

Where are you looking? This is all I have

I've checked each category and there is no reference to incoming messages.

When I look in the Mobile section I have the option for Messages there.

EDIT: Just noticed it says "Notifications you've turned off." Where are the ones that are on? I can't find that list anywhere.

Yeah, it's rather strange how it is. Mine is disabled already, which I guess why I see it. Seems like not everything is there. I think you might need to use the desktop version of Facebook in a browser and go through the settings there to see if you might get more options to control (like actually seeing what's active and being able to disable what you don't need/want).

What I get from the desktop version
"See your notifications on your phone's home screen. You can turn these on and off from the app."

Looks like FB really is really on top of things.

What if you scroll lower to control recent notifications there and find a message notification--it seems to say that if you tap on an notification you don't want it will disable that type of notification.

That list only has my recent wall posts, photo likes and photo tags, nothing for received messages.

So you get push notifications from Facebook for messages but they don't appear on that list of push notifications that you got from Facebook?

Yup. In notification center they show up under Facebook. When I tap the notification it opens the Facebook app, sits there loading for a few seconds, and then automatically opens the Messenger app. I no longer get Messenger notifications for said messages.

Maybe I should just delete both apps and redownload them to start from scratch.

You might as well try something like that given that you aren't getting much in the way of any other options from those apps, and in particular Facebook which is just very wonky when it comes to notifications (I certainly have mine enabled and even have a bunch showing up in that recent list and yet I haven't really getten any actual notifications from Facebook in iOS in quite some time, not even badges).
