Sucks that the apple watch went from being a dick tracy miniature comptuer to just another fitness gimmick gadget/health anxiety generator

I still have an LTE model, but I don't really see the point of it anymore when so much app support is disappearing
The important thing is, it's a very good fitness tool. That is why I purchased it. That is what I use it for. I will admit, I also occasionally use the watch to tell me what time it is. I never thought of using a watch for that function before, but it's shockingly useful.

Imma just do this and get all the apps

Apple Watch probably induces more anxiety regarding one's health than otherwise. I've seen people working in the back kitchen relying on Apple Watch to monitor their mood and heart rate as if monitoring their mood and heart rate can shield them from all the fumes and smoke they breathe in daily.

Fitness and sleep tracking are useful, but a BP monitor and a scale still beat Apple Watch if you already know you have some form of a heart condition. The supposed health benefits of the Apple Watch are way overblown by Apple.

I think this is part of Facebook's overall larger strategy to sunset Messenger as a separate app altogether. Last year they brought Messenger functions back into the main app, making the separate iOS app redundant. I'm guessing it's next on the chopping block.

My advice: Stay away from Facebook. Protect your privacy.
That would be nice @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗️ but Fakebook is primary place along with the Instagram I have lots of contacts with family there is not an alternative. I also use Fakebook as co-admin of the Trilobites group so main spot for my hobbies. I also have some other important groups that have no other alternative. Most of the alternatives are too extreme in views, narrow, and often not a place where I can yet do all this not wanting to fragment my online use of these areas any time soon.

BS. Users are speaking out loud by not using apps. Widgets for AW are a dumb idea, AW is not an interactive device. Apple knows better, I hope, health, fitness is the main reason people get AW.
Nah. Not for everybody. The only apps I don't use either aren't available or are so poorly supported by the app developer that they're not worth using. FedEx app comes to mind. Great idea, but is slow and flaky. I wish UPS had an Apple Watch app for tracking packages. If more good-quality apps for the Apple Watch came out, I'd use them.

The fitness tracking capabilities are "nice-to-have," as far as I'm concerned. But the main function the Apple Watch serves for me is freeing me to walk around the house while on call and be able to respond to messages without having to go running for my phone. Along with being able to quickly swipe away junk notifications.

In fact, the one other use case is one that's so close to perfect. The MLB app has a large complication that shows the full game score with per-inning runs. I'd love to have a dynamic watch face that only displayed this during games. In other words, dynamically put the most relevant complication in that spot at that time. The Siri watch face does this for the game itself with the current score being surfaced to the watch screen during games, but it can't display the MLB app's complication with all the same detail.

I truly truly hate how Messenger specifically blocks you from using it in a mobile browser, to steer you toward installing their app.

At 72 those later categories are minor component. I use the activity for walking measurements and some other heart and heath data from sensors. But for me I got/tried first watch because I could answer phone on it and not put iphone out of pocket, same with texts, and I have good weather apps I use on it. I guess I am in minority if I am in the trend of smart watches mainly/mostly for health?

Oh no you mean I won’t be able to send people messages on Facebook with my watch… Oh no you mean I won’t be able to send people messages on Facebook with my watch.

Seriously though I don’t have any important conversations on any of Meta’s apps because I don’t want my data to be sold. I use messenger but there’s nothing that can’t wait till I look at my phone.

I like the health options, mostly use to measure my walks (at 72 I am not and never was into lots of activity and sports anyway LOL). I like some of the health features (measuring calories consumed I am on diet for health reasons and have third party apps that work with my health app) Heart rates and other stuff of interest. Time to time i use the sleep capbablities to see how things are going. But I use the texting, answering phone, reading email. Looking at my weather apps (I am storm spotter) . I like calendar, time features, timer setting, having calculator app on my AW Ultra To mention a few things. I probably use the watch for health for a third of use at max, and other apps for most of my use.

I'm sure you will still get notifications on your watch when you receive a message, only that you will need your phone to reply, or write a new message.

Good summary of my health uses.

The scarcity of Apple Watch apps may also have something to do with the severe functional limitations in said apps, as well as the terrible and wonky development environment reported by developers.

Because? If people were using that app on their AW I doubt they’d discontinue the app

Social network effect. The less and less apps are developed for Apple Watches, especially from bigger companies, the less and less likely are new apps to be developed going forward. It’s pretty unfortunate to not be able to do something as simple as to respond to messages. It makes it harder and harder for cellular watch users to get by without their iPhones.

You might already have all the motivation you need to exercise, but I find that my Watch's fitness tools provide extra incentive to walk more, take the stairs, etc. I'm sure an argument can be made that I should be motivated to do these things regardless of whether it's tracked, but I figure it's a lot better than nothing at all.
