Note the bottom addition. He said it's the same for Messenger as well. I just wonder if they stopped it for 3.0
Well, as I mentioned, in either case, with Facebook and/or Facebook Messenger, I haven't really noticed much of a battery difference when I have them running or not. Now, again, this kind of thing can be different for people of course, as many things are, but I'm sure there are many others in the same situation as me where having those apps in the background doesn't really seem to take much of a hit on their battery compared to not having them in the background (assuming iOS 7 background refresh is off for them).

Wow, is there really no option to log-out of the app?

I'm trying to figure this out, too. I use two accounts on FB, and I have no idea now how to log out of messenger to get from one account to the other! Can't find an option to log out at all!

I sent them an in-app Report a Problem about this, and the other bug that I mentioned near the top of this thread.

Its the Hotel California feature - you can check out any time you want but you can never leave. Well, in this case, you cant even check out.

This is annoying every time you open and switch the app, especially since I don't want to use notifications. I count this as a bug rather than a feature:

This one is the insecure girlfriend feature. "Please dont ignore me, please please please! How can you give me enough attention if you dont have notifications on?"

Can we have an iChat for iPhone? One of the best applications on Mac. I've got AIM, Google, and Facebook on there.

How does the phone number integration work?

As I understood it, you have to add your own phone number to Facebook Messenger in order for other Facebook Messenger users, with whom you are not Facebook friends, to send you messages. If you don't add your phone number or turn your phone-number settings to 'Friends' or 'Friends of friends' (rather than 'Public'), then other people won't be able to send you these messages. Similarly, you cannot contact people whose phone numbers are not registered with Facebook Messenger, unless they are in your friends list.

Facebook Messenger also wants access to your phone's contacts. I presume that this goes hand in hand with the feature just described, so that Facebook Messenger can add new contacts based on the phone numbers it recognises.

I think it combines the functionality of Facebook Chat and something similar to Whatsapp. If you have someone's number, and that person uses Facebook Messenger and shared their phone number, then you can contact them through Facebook Messenger. Likewise, if you don't want to disclose your phone number, then you can.

Seems like every update for FB they try to get more data from you and taking away the option to opt-out. iOS, Android or desktop - it doesn't matter.

All you data are belong to us.

I can confirm this is still an issue for me, big time. Battery burning apps.

The app is nice visually, and the integration of it into the Facebook app so we just have one messages location is nice.

However the notification sounds are awful, and I hate hate hate sounds for when I hit 'send'. Hopefully they'll let us specify sounds in an update soon.

I'm glad to see that we can turn off 'preview' for messages now - I disabled lock screen notifications because all my Facebook messages could be read from it.

This is great, with the phone number integration it basically renders Whatsapp, Kik, MessageMe and all the other same messaging apps obsolete. Well, it should, but I'm sure Whatsapp will continue to be the most popular, expensive and ugly messaging app that everyone uses :/

At least now you can turn off in-app sounds and vibrations.

Ah of course, in-app sounds disabled now so I don't have sending sounds. The notification sound is still painfully annoying.

Also, notifications get cleared half of the time on my iPhone when I read/continue the conversation on the web.

Bah.

The facebook app was also updated and it now opens Messenger instead of showing you ugly chat heads.

I actually liked the chat heads. I DONT like that I switch out of the FB app every time I click on the messages.

The chat heads got in the way and were awkward to get rid of. On my iPhone 5, switching between the Facebook app and the Messages app is smooth and quick - anyone with an iPhone 4 confirm the same?

I have a 5s and, as you said, the switching is snappy and I like it.

I also have a 4s and chat heads often crash the app because of all of the background loading stuff and I'd prefer switching apps than crashing apps.

The only problem is that the switching is not working on my 4s. The chat heads still appear, there still is the 'Messages' button instead of 'Messenger' in the Facebook app, although I installed Facebook Messenger.

Can someone suggest something to fix this ?

There isn't an update for the Facebook app waiting? Try deleting it and installing it again.

Well, I hope there will be some update because I deleted and installed both Facebook and the Messenger app with the same result. It's funny because I know someone with an iPhone 4 and the switching works.

I don't know if this is relevant, but are you signed into Facebook in your iPhone's settings?
