Facebook messenger/messages not working

facebook messenger or messages not loading on my computer (macbook) and on iPhone, I have restarted phone deleted and reinstalled apps and also reset cache and deleted cookies on computer, I cannot send or recieve messages.

the message comes up with There was a problem connecting to Facebook. Please check your connection and try again. This has been the same problem for over 7 hours now. I have tried from another computer and the messages will not load. i have deleted the apps and reinstalled and still the same problem. Is it my facebook or is this a wider problem?

Any help/advice would be great

Yup, I'm having the same problem, I cleared my browsers cache, disabled extensions like ad blockers, and tried accessing them on my phone but nothing is working. I sent facebook a message through the help center, but we'll see if that solves anything.

However, in my search I noticed a lot of forums where this problem is being posted today like yours. I'm wondering if something is going specifically today.

Sounds like facebook is having some serious issues. Sigh.
