Facebook Messenger - No Push Alerts

iPhone 5 with iOS 6. Have Facebook and Facebook Messenger installed. In Notification Settings I have all alerts for the Facebook app disabled but I want Facebook Messenger to alert on new messages so notifications for it are turned on.

Unfortunately, I'm getting nothing. Ideas?

If you updated the new Messenger app, there is a setting inside the app to turn on notifications as well. Perhaps both need to be enabled. That's what worked for me.
