Have we not learned the hard way that Facebook should not be used for news? It's going to tell people what they want to hear, not what they need to hear.
Exactly this.I joined FaceBook to keep in touch with my family and friends, who are scattered to the four corners of the planet. If I want news, or videos of dogs and cats dancing together dressed in tutus, I can find that outside of FB. FB took an elegant idea and ruined it with a lack of vision, a lack of focus, a junky GUI, and greed. It is becoming as crass as tabloid newspapers.
It was just greed.I joined FaceBook to keep in touch with my family and friends, who are scattered to the four corners of the planet. All those publications are fairly aligned in their views, as most news is opinion these days Facebook news will effectively push a one sided narrative purported to come from reputable sources effectively saying the same thing. If they all said night is day and water is dry then a significant number of Facebook users won’t see any other press stating the correct facts and lots if Facebook users will be going around believing in nonsense siting the uncredible sources like the guardian, channel 4 or sky news. From the screenshots and list of 'national' media organisations, this is all English news and England focused. Not that it matters all that much, Facebook is on its last legs.
And like the U.S., users in the United Kingdom will have one more reason to delete this app from their lives.
Becoming? LOL... I jumped ship 6+ years ago and it was an absolute s***show then. There are other and better ways of staying in touch with distant family and friends than legitimizing / justifying toxic social media corps.I joined FaceBook to keep in touch with my family and friends, who are scattered to the four corners of the planet. 😂 facebook is on its last legs? based on what. they are up 100 dollars up per share YTD.
This is exactly why I hate it! I hate those unviewed notification dots, so it almost forces my hand. Most of the news is sensationalistic garbage too, just fanning the flames of outrage. Fortunately I just roll my eyes and move on, but it is obnoxious. I pity those who fall into these news traps...no wonder people have lost their minds.Another annoying button across the bottom you won’t be able to remove/turn off. Not to mention the the annoying red dots three times a day you’ll have to dig to find to make them disappear which are just to keep you engaged with their app and make them more money.
All of which will get worse once ad tracking is no longer allowed...
If there is something they don't want you to see, you won't see it. Not in their app. That being said, you won't see any Anti-Facebook news.I actually really like the Facebook News tab. Lots of different articles covering various sides of an issue, and their choice of publications, and the associated curation of said publications, results in unbiased coverage to the extent that modern news media naturally permits.
Yes, without the option for ad-blockers.Soon Facebook will just be another browser?
Disinformation gets spread by mainstream news even better than FB so unfortunately it won't matter. Why does this "feature" make me utterly depressed? I shouldn't care because I don't use Facebook, but their evil tentacles are stretching into yet more parts of our lives where they shouldn't be. Part of me wants to think that this will cut down on the spread of disinformation, but most of me just thinks that Facebook should climb back in its box and go away.
