Yep....Pretty much on target.

Watch the dump dump dumping continue tomorrow.

Sorry to all those who trying to make a fast buck.

Too funny. Anyone with an IQ of 20 can smell the desperation. Oh maybe on Wednesday we'll hear how they are going to compete with Space X and Telsa. I'm willing to bet the stock will dive even faster on this news....a nice 10% by the end of tomorrow. It's funny too how the stock inches up and up and then takes a major dump. As Gordon Gekko would say...Facebook is a dog with fleas.

This whole thing would make sense if anyone at Facebook had an eye for design.

They do not. Hiring off the people Apple is willing to let go without a substantial counter-offer isn't exactly the best way to get that talent, either.

Actually it can work very well.

The best programmers and engineers keep or switch jobs not just because of an offer of higher pay... which Apple isn't known for giving, btw... but also greatly because of being allowed to put their ideas into practice.

For example, some of the top ideas in WebOS came from ex-Apple guys who thought they had a better way of doing multitasking and notification, and they were right.

So it's not at all unlikely that FB could get some top talent with some cool ideas that Jobs/Apple kept off the iPhone.

They do already have an App ecosystem that could potentially work well on mobile and tie mobile in with desktop apps more effectively than iOS or Android.

No they don't. They have a handful of great apps mixed in with a ton of crappy ones. Example: Apple doesn't allow apps that mimic functions already built into iOS. Facebook is full of those. Apple sifts through new apps before saying it is safe to use (and while they occasionally miss something, this generally works well.) Facebook just tells people to be careful. Apple wants you buy their stuff and use you as their billboard. Facebook wants to study you, THOROUGHLY, and sell YOU as the product. etc etc

Interesting perspective. Who knows, we could have millions of kids wanting a FB phone and mom and dad would oblige, just like they do with iPhones, etc. Maybe it will suddenly become the "cool" thing to have a FB phone. Who knows, the market is so fickle.
I agree with you completely.

From time to time I ask myself, "Just how long will Facebook be popular?"

I know the numbers of users are staggering and that I, as one who does _not_ use Facebook am most certainly in the minority, yet it still makes me wonder.

I'm not being critical of it, as it most certainly serves a purpose, all those people can't be wrong. Nonetheless, after witnessing what happened to My Space, and some of the other social sites, I find it a very interesting business to follow.

In my case, it's just a time sink that does not appeal to me.

I do think you have a very good point about possibility of the phone being in high demand. My guess is it would be the hard core dedicated Facebook lovers who would embrace this product.

Not too much unlike those who think Apple is the only company to buy their devices from.

There's plenty of business for everyone, and this would be just one more choice :)
