So, Zuckerberg announced a partnership with Skype to bring video calling to Facebook.

It's an incredibly simple process with a "10-second download".
Makes Skype for Mac obsolete for me.

You can find out more here: http://www.facebook.com/videocalling

Its huge. Now Skype just got way easier since theres only one contact (Someones name on facebook) to get. I rarely used Skype before because I never bothered to get peoples contact info, but this makes everything so much simpler.

I think Microsoft made a good decision with Skype now that 750mil people have easy access to it as well as easy access to all their contacts. Throw in W8/WPhone support and **** just got real nice for someone in the Microsoft "ecosystem".

What a truly "awesome" announcement this is. Video chat is the most important and most used form of communication and Facebook has redefined video chat with their groundbreaking new feature.

What is this, an iPhone?

Eh, I tried it out with a couple of friends. Not too pleased. It's laggy, one friend reported she didn't see my video feed, although I saw hers (And mine was in the corner all small-like), one friend it never worked with. One (Coincidentally the only on a Mac) worked perfectly with.

Change your browser agent to Safari 5.1--Mac.

I too would hope this would be available on iOS eventually, but Apple probably wont allow it.

haha, yeah coincidentally it worked on both my mac and pc with no issues.
Anyways, now that Skype will work for smartphones and computers with pretty much all your contacts already there I dont see the point of Facetime. Seems like Skype just dominated everyone.

This doesn't work for me at all, and i am using Snow Leopard. I have tested every browser known to man, but the same prompt is coming up: It wants me to install the java-file every time i start a video-call. Someone having the same problem? Seems to be a cross-platform issue, since i have tested every popular browser out there. It worked like a charm on my Windows Vista-Pc...

When i log on to a different profile and go Facebook.com/videocalling, it actually says that i have installed it. Makes no sense whatsoever.

EDIT2: Got it to work twice, after i moved the file FacebookVideoCalling.webplugin file over to the 'Internet Plug-ins" folder in the Library (Which curiously enough did not contain anything facebook-related) from the 'Facebook' folder in 'Application Support'. Now i can't connect again, just receving an error. Incredibly unstable stuff, really irritating.

The UI is pretty laggy, but overall it worked well. Audio and video quality were good, better than Google+. Does anyone know how this integrates with the Skype desktop app? Can you 'call' facebook people from the desktop client? (to lazy to actually check :p).
