Fortunate for me and those who do not voluntarily upload any personal information and personal pictures to internet voluntarily and who protect our personal information from public knowledge.

Or so you'd like to think!

But I've been searching the Dark Web and I know who you are... Mr Bob Democracyrules! Busted!

Facebook should not be blamed much because everyone who uploading their private information to internet shares blames as well. Uploading any private and personal pictures or personal information to internet exposes any personal information and pictures “voluntarily” to public, which is not smart. I'd agree except for the news on Monday that FB Messenger on Android was secretly logging regular phone call history and text messages through a loophole in the API. They even deliberately built the app with an older Android SDK to do this after Android removed that privilege (cause for some stupid reason that works, one reason I avoid Android). FB denied it, and it's not in their privacy policy, so that's straight up spyware.

Other than that, they're being honest. I don't give a crap about Cambridge Analytica having user info. It said in the privacy policy that your data is given out to third parties.

Ha ha ha.. in your dreams!!
You can join Facebook, but you can't leave until Zuck let's you:D

But.. but.. they told my data will be erased in about 14 days...

No, seriously, it's already too late but deleting Facebook now is a big step and quite useful for protecting your (future) privacy. I had it deactivated already, but that was because I got really tired of the garbage people post on there. Deleting was actually a small and easy step.

Who has deleted FaceBook Messenger and/or WhatsApp of their iPhones? That is my next move after I stripped as much out of my FB profile. I have got 1 message via WhatsApp in 4 years, so I think that is a given to delete. What have my other fellow Apple advocates have done?

Not a good idea since almost everyone messages me on there with my current account.

What I used to do was get my account banned for violating ToS. Deactivating wasn't effective cause I'd always accidentally log back in from some site's FB login.

Cambridge Analytica were also allowed to access information beyond the scope of their agreement.

Plus, there is the issue of scope. Facebook allows my data to be used to sell me things? No problem. Allow my data to be used to subject me or others to an campaign/AI that has Hannibal Lecter levels of psychological insight and manipulation? Nope. Nope. Nope.

I actually stripped the account of any connected apps or accounts along with deleting every single post, like or tag manually (not because I think that's a better way of deleting things, just because I wanted a fully stripped down - but working - account). I had it deactivated for over a year and only logged in twice to find out I hadn't missed a thing.

Removing connected apps is a sensible step, better would be to disable, “Platform” altogether, if the use case allows.

However manually removed likes and posts may not be effective, as they may simply be being marked as removed, not actually being deleted. The only way to really delete your information on there is to actually delete your account.

If you go back a few comments you’ll see that I actually did remove my account, this last reply was the situation before that.

It’s very informative and interesting talking about these things and actually digging through the privacy settings. I was really amazed how far Facebook was rooted everywhere.

It’s basically like having bamboo in your backyard. Last summer in pulled every bit of bamboo out (took me a few days), but there’s still bamboo popping up in random places, quite far away from the original source.

Internet is great!

Apologies, I missed that post.

If they were smart, they would do a picture frame with Alexa functionality. Only pictures from friends’ Facebook and Instagram feeds. Who needs a speaker for Facebook. Classic lack of original thinking that has plagued facebook for a decade.

The product strategy aside, who on their right mind would let a spyware device from the gruesome twosome Zuck + Cheryl Samberg into their home? Facebook is gross beyond words.
