FB's highly-produced video failed to show how advertisements will be injected into your Paper stream.

So, would you prefer that you pay a monthly fee to use these services then?

What's your point, really? That you want something for nothing?

I do like the look of this, hopefully it'll be out for the rest of the world shortly after. I'm wondering if it's US only due to deals with newspapers - making deals with others outside the US taking time?

Those are the only two alternatives you see? Really?

I would prefer FB to honestly portray how advertisements in this new service will actually work. How much of the real estate of the application and/or time of users will be occupied with advertisements?

Have you seen the Forbes article Facebook's Advertising Is Starting To Spiral Out Of Control ? Do you realize how much of the FB page is devoted to advertising? Notice how much more advertising you get on a FB page than any of the other sites!

Did you see @suly54's contribution:

The video notes the massive problem: contributors providing good content are expected to pay for that content to get wide distribution to its followers. That is absurd. The secondary problem (equally troubling) is that FB distorts your feed to contributors that you have liked in the past. Those choices to not serve the individual users; FB thinks they will work to maximize revenue for the site.

What's your point, really?

My point is that social media sites must be oriented towards their users first and the advertisers second, and that FB is going too far in the opposite direction. Do you have evidence that FB's priority is the user experience?

For a counterexample, MR draws an exceptionally good line in the sand. The site has a fair share of advertising, but it does not get in your way. The advertising is typically on-topic for the discussion, and I find myself clicking through advertisements far more frequently here than most any other sites -- definitely more clicks than FB. MR has the user experience in mind, and it is working.

That you want something for nothing?

If I wanted something for nothing, I would be using the ad-blocking plugins. I do not.

Let's cool it on the aggressive tone. You jumped to all sorts of conclusions in your message. Thanks. :)
