I really, really don't want Facebook as part of iOS. Not even happy Apple is going this route when it is just as easy to make it downloadable content. Please allow me to opt out in every way possible, or better yet delete any Facebook related components from my phone.

Thanks.

No use for Facebook whatsoever.

I agree 100%, in fact, I can't for the life of me understand why Apple would "lend" their hard-earned platform to Facebook by giving them a spot baked Right into the OS.

What's the upside for Apple?

Is there anyone who has chosen to not purchase an iPhone because Facebook is not baked in? Will including Facebook at the OS level make anyone specifically chose the iPhone over another cell phone? As far as I can tell, the answer to both of these questions is no.

Furthermore, without Apple's help to once and for all "legitimize" FB by adding it deep inside iOS, the FB fad would fade away at an even faster rate than it is presently. Wouldn't that be a good thing for Cupertino?

Unless FB integration is a pay-to-play move from FB using their vast fortune of IPO funny money, what's in it for Apple?

They still have a crappy app overall. Notifications don't work very often. It's very slow to load someone's wall. It just sucks overall.

I think the eventual system-wide integration of Facebook is good news for Apple fans who find Game Center a ghost town. Finding friends in iOS 5's Game Center is a joke. Users should be able to search through their Twitter followers and Facebook friends to find fellow iOS gamers, instead of just searching by email address or Game Center username.

I like FB as a platform, but their mobile app startegy with a web page wrapper as well as look & feel on the web is so sad and boring.

Since apps on iPhone don't benefit from the vastly faster Javascript engine in the "pure" Safari Mobile app, using http://m.facebook.com is actually much faster than using their app! Especially when looking at comments to statuses and photos, but less jerky scrolling too. Try it! Visit m.facebook via Safari on iPhone. You might be shocked. But you can't upload photos that way, naturally.

And when an app is slower than the dumb website, you know there's a problem.

I by no means consider myself anti-Facebook, but the whole Facebook experience feels like it's grinding me down these days. Everything is getting more complicated and obtuse.

Whereas before I'd browse and interact with the site for pleasure, I find myself only using it when I need to lately.

They should just keep things simple.

I'm not involved in any social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), so perhaps it's not my place to comment.

But it seems to me that if you don't like FB integration, or FB apps, or whatever...don't click on them.

Unless I'm missing something (certainly a good possibility), nobody is forcing anybody to use the FB functions. It's presence has no effect on me or any others not involved in social media.

I don't really care, or mind, having all this FB stuff since I don't have anything to do with it. If others like it, then let them use it...:D

I just...

About 20min ago, I just kicked FB out of my Notifications because it is annoying to me that you have to "forbid" facebook apps to let others send you invitations instead of "allowing" apps to do that. If I want an App to communicate with me, I will certainly allow it. Otherwise - leave me alone! After 10x Amazon movie gifts within a week, I'd rather not. I have Netflix and that is good enough for me. If FB is not changing ways people can spam everyone with notifications through Apps, I will just delete my FB account alltogether - especially if the dooming notification spam hail is dawning with iOS 6.

I agree, I don't understand their focus on adding things to their products all the time, and rarely doing any performance issue patches.

There are times I get beach balls on the fastest i7 machines I have when just using the website on Firefox or Safari. The Mobile application is mostly worthless, I only keep it because it sends me notifications for happenings within my profile.

I use facebook a bit, and much of it is because, much to my annoyance, a variety of things I'm involved with have chosen to have a fb page instead of maintaining their own site. So I get how fb is the juggernaut that can't be slowed. But I also poke around and waste time on it for my own amusement like most people, and I don't see any upside to this development. Can't imagine why anyone would prefer to use it this way over the way they've been using it. What most people who enjoy fb DON'T like about it is how it's got its tentacles spread over too much of their life instead of being a fun place to go to and wile away some time, like it used to be.

This feels to me like the warning shot of the shark jump, where the negatives finally outweigh the positives.

They need to get the basic functions working (posting things, commenting, looking at photographs) before they add new features! C'mon Facebook...

Agreed, I think they need to just get it to work before adding on functionality that's going to slow it even more.

Bad move for Apple.

I just dont get it........I think facebook has had its day in the sun and people are becoming increasingly concerned with how their data is being collected and used for advertisements.

Given the size of Zuckerberg's company its laughable that they cant get the most basic features in their app right. Whilst I have been a Facebook user for quite a while I
now only check it every couple of weeks, only to realize I missed nothing.

Are we going to get farmville notifications and poked (behave!) 10 times a day?

The fact that Apple want to integrate this service is a bad thing and I doubt that Mr Jobs would have entertained the idea.

Don't Listen to the App Trolls

I have responded to about two app requests or Facemesses that pop up on Facebook. I've deleted both of them. Social gaming? Horribly boring. I always suspect that Facebook just wants to get its talons on my data, and I won't let them.

Facebook Total Integration.

Perhaps... just perhaps, and I know this is going out on a limb here, but what if, I dunno, I don't want to be inundated with notifications about what every other person I've ever met or heard of is doing at any given moment, and don't feel the need to broadcast my every move to everyone in the world?

This self-promotion culture of do-nothing busybodies is crossing over from obnoxious to revolting.

For some of us, ie adults, it has always been revolting. FB appeals to teenager mentality.

Well, it's the biggest thing around, and my family is on it. So it's a quick way of getting in touch. That's about the end of it. Now that they've opened the casino with that PPO, I suspect they'll quickly lose steam. So, in a year, Apple will withdraw its okay.

Then turn it off.

and now we see why FB switched from a native app to a UIWebView "wrapper" app that has pitiful performance.

Great. Adding new things when they can't even get the basics working.

FB, good luck on your world domination goals of 2012.

Please, please...

I fervently hope that Apple will provide an option to ban any mention of or option involving or referring to Facebook from my iOS device. If they don't but an anti-Facebook option becomes available for jailbroken devices, well, I'm busting out just for that.

I also have a lot of problems with the Facebook app and did a quick test on my phone to prove how problematic it is.

Time the Facebook app took to load a profile over WiFi: 44 seconds
Time Mobile Safari took to load the full desktop site version of that same profile: 8 seconds
