Sounds like you are on a tight budget and interested in higher performance - doesn't sound like mac is a good fit, it's a premium product for people that don't want to have to mess with anything. GL with the hackintosh though, maybe you are in a position where the sweat equity is a worthwhile payback (no job I think you said)
Is that Geforce GT 640 card really worth $110 extra cost, over an Ivy Bridge's on-CPU Intel HD 4000 video?
Preferred motherboard/chipset/CPU combo choice: Gigabyte + Intel Z77 chipset + Ivy Bridge CPU.
Therefore: better Hackintosh support from: tonymacx86.com & kakewalk.se.
Note: the Intel i3-3225 (Ivy Bridge) CPU with on board HD 4000 video is now available for ~$145:

It's called hackingtosh for a reason. the diffrent variations of PC hardware make it difficult to get reliable drivers made. the hactinosh homebrew sceen is for the most adept computer user. anyone who asks a noob orientated forum like macrumors to see if it's a good idea or not should just not do it.
even if you did do it. hackintosh is only for nerds to feel good and pat themselves on the back, then realise they can't use it as intended. They still need a real mac. I know from experience. you only can pat you own back for so long.![]()
Too late now I guess!
I think the combination I chose was ok. It's a huge increase over my current setup, and should do fine for at least a half a year, then I will upgrade the graphics, ram, and possibly a new power supply.
Well, you could still call Newegg and have them revoke the shipment before it even gets to your delivery address. Might be out the shipping cost only. Then re-do the order without the GT640 video card, and replace the motherboard & CPU with what was suggested in my previous post.
Savings: ~$140 (less any "revoked shipment" fees.
No?
Hackintoshing is pointless. Just use Linux. Why are you putting yourself through this?
To save a few bucks?
Good luck with it, there are a lot of people on here who can help out with your hackintosh issues. I hope it all gets sorted out. If I had the free time I would do a hackintosh too...
Intel Core i5 2310 2.6GHz

Nice job man! I'm jealous ... that looks like an awesome machine.
How's it run? Does it sleep and resume well? Do sound and Ethernet work correctly?
Wat case is that?

Not cool if sleep doesn't work -- shutting down every time you walk away from the computer is no good, and keeping it powered 24/7 is no good either.thanks!
It runs very well! Nice and fast! I don't use sleep, but Ethernet worked out of the box and the sound was fixed with multibeast!
