Hasn't that already been reiterated? Not every pair of sunglasses are going to work effectively with Face ID due the reflectivity/opaque. You Asking me why your other polarized sunglasses would work contrary to others will differ, as other forum members have already attested theirs do not and in other threads, others have had success. I have a multitude of different types of sunglasses of all different brands, but not all of them will work successfully with Face ID, but with attention and awareness disabled, that changes significantly.

As I already mentioned to you before, for those have inconsistent results with various sunglasses can disable attention awareness and that will increase the likeliness of Face ID unlock more successfully because the sensors are not Focusing on your eyes.

The reason he made the callout is that you emphatically stated that polarized lenses are a Face ID problem when, in fact, they are not.

Polarized lenses are a terrific help and probably save countless people from accidents due to their fantastic glare reduction. We don’t want people thinking they should avoid polarized lenses because of Face ID conflicts.

Polarized sunglasses are not an issue for Face ID. The issue is solely due to the amount of infrared coating on certain lenses, that has nothing to do with polarization.

Polarized lenses are NOT necessarily just to help prevent accidents due to the sun or glare, they're also for those who might suffer from cataracts or other Medical conditions with the eye causing pain or discomfort.

That’s good to know but that has nothing to do with Face ID or your incorrect claim that polarized lenses are a problem for it.

but that has nothing to do with Face ID

Neither does your statement listed below have any affiliation with Face ID, it was more or less an adjunct to your own statement to advise there are more than one purpose for Polarization, which isn't just related to accidents.

Should I instead keep trying it over an over again until it works?!

Plus I don’t mind doing things that takes next to zero effort
Not sure why your glasses have issues. I have 8 sets of glasses 7 polarized ranging from ray bans to pradas and I dont have issues with unlocking. Maybe im lucky

Just got the X yesterday, been using it all day no issues. This morning took a drive with my shades on, then I got out of the car and tried unlocking my X and it continually failed until eventually I put in my passcode. However right after that, it unlocked with my sunglasses no problem. Looks like the machine learning took over. pretty cool.

For anyone who might be googling this issue (like I just did):

Works with Oakley Black Iridium and an old color that I've had for a long time now and can't remember the name of. They are yellow with hints of orange and red. They might be an old version of Fire Iridium.

Does not work with Oakley Prizm Road lenses.

you dont really need to be doing this

You do if FaceID cannot see your eyes through your sunglasses! Unless you turn off awareness detection, you absolutely have to lift up your sunglasses in order for FaceID to unlock your phone. Either that or you will always be entering your passcode.

It all depends on the sunglasses. Polarized has nothing really to do with it. Some of the better sunglasses block ir and those are the ones with which FaceID will fail. Has nothing to do with the color of the lenses etc.

It’s not the polarization, Face ID can be affected by the IR coatings on opaque lenses.

not really. I have 9 pairs of sunglasses with awareness detection and they all work fine. all but one are polarized. FaceID can see in the dark it see's through sun glasses just fine.
My sunglasses range from Prada, maui Jim, polo, ray bans, dolce and gabbana's ect. It really doesnt matter not sure why you are having issues with them.
I do not have any Oakleys though

I have a pair of polarized ray bans which work fine. So far I have had no issues with any sunglasses that I have tried.

It really is variable. Sometimes I don’t always believe the opaque lens are always the problem, sometimes I think it’s the ambient light that’s distracting the sensors coupled with trying to penetrate pass the coating on the lens.

My iPhone X doesn’t work with my Prizm Golf lenses. I have to try and see if turning off Attention awareness helps when you I use those glasses.

do they not work in shade with the glasses? could be glare of the sun

Good point. Because sometimes I really do think the sunlight affects the sensitivity of the sensors and the ambient light can be distracting when Face ID is trying to read your eyes, especially given if the sunglasses lens are already somewhat opaque.

Some sunglasses work others don’t. Polarized glasses tend to fail more
Dark colored or mirror glass seems to be
A problem. Try the glasses in the store to see what works

It doesn’t work in the shade either, but will work when i turn off attention awareness.

Its Not the shade, it’s the opaque lense. With attention Awareness disabled, it’s focusing on your face and not your eyes.
