Just wait till it comes to the iPad

It’s fsr quicker than I was expecting I have to say.

I don't think the main argument was Face ID working well, it was the overall reasoning that many iPhone 8 users prefer Touch ID because they don't have an interest in Face ID.

I don't think that was all the issue. I was concerned about having to do more to open my phone, and my fears were justified. Face id is slow, that extra swipe is idiotic and redundant and I can't unlock my phone sitting on my desk or car holder without lifting it in front of my face or moving my face in front of it.

Hopefully I'll get used to it, I'm willing to give it a chance and build up muscle memory. Everything is a trade off and I can certainly appreciate the screen real estate gained from getting rid of the home button.

I'm curious: Does the X use FaceID for screen orientation?

It seems this would be an obvious use for it; orientation lock would be completely obsolete because the phone KNOWS which way you're holding the phone, whether you're laying down in bed or not.

No one has mentioned this I'm guessing not, but it surprises me that Apple wouldn't think of that.

I am enjoying Face ID as well. It would be cool if I could just tap the screen to unlock instead of having to swipe up to unlock once my face is identified.

It won’t work when I wake up in bed in the dark... like 8/10 times it won’t work.

I thought cos my eyes were half open because I just woke up. But even after 5 mins it still won’t work.

A bit disappointing to say the least.

Faceid is very easy to get use to... im already getting anoyed with my ipad.

Microsoft's version of Face ID on the Surface Pro and Samsung's on the Note 8 are also very good and got me spoiled. Hate the way fingerprints seem to have to be reset every so often.

Only time I’ve had to reset finger prints on any of my iOS devices is when resetting up the phone or restoring. What makes you think facial ID won’t need resetting ?

I feel ya. The authentication process becomes nearly invisible.

Exactly.

I heard something interesting on a podcast from someone who has used the iPhone X for a review. (maybe Gruber)

He said it's not only unlocking that amazed him... but also when you needed to authenticate inside an app.

Let's say you're using your phone and you decide to open your bank app. It used to prompt you to place your finger on the TouchID sensor.

But now it just scans your face automatically and opens. No additional input required.

I'm not saying that putting your finger on the TouchID sensor was difficult... but now you don't have to do anything extra.

This is all... of course... assuming that you're looking in the direction of your phone. But you should be if you're using your phone. :)

Face ID is perfect for me. I don't use a password or fingerprint. I actually use face ID because it is so simple and the only time I need my phone unlocked is when I am looking at it. No complaints so far. I have not had any errors and it is super fast.

I suppose it might. I had to reset my fingerprint almost weekly with my ip7+, and that is with having three prints registered with the same finger.

totally! sometimes i just glance at my phone and swipe up and then i realize it unlocked just like that. so natural and so much better than touch id. touch id feels like outdated tech compared to face id
