FaceID in landscape

Can anyone pick up their phone, put in landscape for texting, and then unlock with FaceID? I've only had it for like 10 days, so I haven't been using as long as some. I find it generally a fine enough solution but the not unlocking in landscape sucks

To be able to scan in landscape, the infrared scanning array would have to be square, instead of a portrait oriented rectangle. Since most people likely just unlock vertically, Apple made the decision not to bother with the extra cost and real estate that a square array would take up.

Just a theory.

Nope and thats the reason I returned mine. I had the X in car cradle and I could not unlock with face ID. Returned for 8 + and love it.

Two years later and still no landscape FaceID in iPhone

Yeah, no landscape mode. If you tilt your head or the phone about 45° it should work.
