Mine's not slowing down, but my failure rate isn't getting any better. I was walking in Kroger with it 10 inches from my face and had two consecutive failures.

As a few other people have posted, the novelty of FaceID is over, people aren’t watching for the animation anymore. They are used to it now, and perhaps a bit impatient for the device to auto-unlock after the swipe.

Mine is about the same speed, perhaps even faster. I ended up doing a video of it working for my friend who also did a preorder, and it appears to be powering through that process just a litle faster than it did on day 1.

I have no issues with FaceID (knock on wood). It’s responsive. To the user having issues with it unlocking, try moving the phone away from your face. 10 inches is a little close for the IR camera.

likewise, it works quite well. If I get a failure, I just enter my password and everything I have read said it essentially makes faceID "learn" the new angle. If you keep using that angle it will work going forward. If you do not use that angle again, it "forgets" the angle after a certain period of time.

This. I find my Face ID getting faster. Don’t retry with each failure, enter your passcode to confirm it’s you.

Mine isn't slowing down, nor is my "NOPE" rate increasing. But I still have that little aggravating issue now and then when it will just NOPE lock repeatedly until I put it to sleep. No matter what I do...smile, remove glasses, put glasses on, change lighting, etc....sometimes it just flat out won't recognize me. If I sleep it then try again...boom....works like a champ. NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE WANNA USE PASSKEY? (SLEEP) OH HI THERE! Really makes me wonder if it's stuck on something behind that lock screen.

Seem's totally random to me. Happens at most once a day, if that. But when it happens, after so many flawless unlocks otherwise, you really notice it. Selection bias likely.

You should be entering the password though, otherwise you are never going to improve your failure rate.

Mine seems about the same, I don't really think about it anymore. By the time I go to swipe, it's unlocked. I don't require attention on mine though.

I remember TouchID was awful when it first gets set up. But everytime you failed and put in your password, it get better and faster. Must be the same with FaceID because I've had it since day one and it is still learning my pillow face (although this morning it recognized me!!).

I love it. It has failed less than TouchID in my usage of it.

Mine has actually been working way better than I expected, which is somewhat of a miracle considering I have a heavy beard and wear glasses. Unlocks just about every time for me with no slow down since getting it. My guess is as someone else stated, the novelty has worn off and people are just waiting around now to get into their phone instead of watching it unlock.

The unlock animation irritates me. Slows down the whole unlock process. I really don’t care to see the little lock spin and unlock.
You don't have to sit through the whole animation. A lot of the time I'm swiping up so quickly the animation doesn't even start. By the time my thumb reaches the top of the screen the little icon hasn't even moved yet.

Hmmmm...so you are saying entering my passcode after several NOPE scenarios, all of which are followed consistently by a YEP scenario....will somehow train Face ID to get rid of NOPEs?

Worth a try for a few days I guess! Thanks!

Working good here, occasionally I do get a random fail. I either try again, or what I am trying to do now is type the passcode to train it better.

Unfortunately that’s not the case with me. Even when I tap the screen and immediately swipe up I still have to sit through that animation. It’s probably an iOS 11.2 Beta issue though so I’m hoping it gets quicker through a software update.

Nope, love Face ID. Mine just seems to be faster and faster and recognizing more awkward angles. For example at the gym yesterday I had my X on elliptical off to side by my iPad, and it recognized my face even though it was at quite an angle offset from my face. I do have the attention required setting turned off.

The best part of it is in the use of the X itself, not the unlocking - apps, Apple Pay, etc.

It actually works pretty great, and gets a little better. I guess this will get picked apart until all users have adopted it, and all of a sudden 'love it'

I moved the phone from arms length away in front of me and moved it forward, hoping to get "recognized" but it never did.

damn you take your iPhone AND your iPad with you to the gym, you're the person I keep waiting on to get off the machine and off your electronics so I can finish my set hahaha

It is not slowing down for me, but the failure rate is increasing. It went from 1/10 failed attempted to roughly 4/10 failed attempts. Not sure why. I dont wear lenses, glasses, hats or anything.

Don’t mind too much as even Touch ID gave me problems as my hands get sweaty. That said, Face ID does not feel like a huge upgrad but it is nice when works. It just scanning my face for to put in a password is still great and transitions easier than Touch ID.
