When I had my lovely Pixel 4 XL, it had face unlock, and when the phone unlocked it went straight to the home screen.

Last iPhone I had was the 12 Pro Max, and when FaceID unlocked the phone, you still had to swipe up to unlock the screen, which seemed kind of dumb to have that extra step. Since then has iOS changed it, or give a Settings option to unlock straight to the home screen, without needing to swipe up still?

That's not quite right. Your Lock Screen shows notifications. FaceID unlocks the phone but leaves the notifications. The swipe takes you Home (as it always does).

LOL welcome to the world of iOS.

I think it was a very popular Jailbreak option to make it work like the Pixel 4 XL's face unlock.

Oh well...I'm staying on Pixel for now until iOS gets a much needed overhaul / revamp.

I think Apple builds beautiful phones, and designs amazing [H]ardware, but it's operating system just blows. I prefer the Pixel UI far more, but then the tradeoffs are mediocre hardware specs and average quality from Google.

With the 14 Pro and Pro Max, you can simply swipe to go to the Home Screen. Because of the Always on Display, you don’t have to tap to wake it and then swipe. Just swipe when the phone is asleep and you’re on the Home Screen.
