'Faces' feature in iPhoto?

I just got a new comp and transferred over my files via Time machine and when I loaded up iPhoto it asked me if I wanted to use location and faces. What does the faces feature do?

Allows you to tag people by face and it continues to recognize them
It will then group them by face for you as well

No, it has nothing to do with Facebook. It's just software that recognises peoples faces.
