Music apps, YouTube, Siri etc are working as expected when setting the phone up so that audio is only coming out of one ear plug (e.g. left channel) by putting the slide all the way to "L" and enabling "Mono Audio" in order to have the right and left channel together.

However, FaceTime and Skype do not respect my settings and revert to stereo while in a call. I assume this is a system issue. Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you very much in advance.

Edit: Settings changed in system settings "Accessibility". iOS 8.1.2. Standard Apple ear plugs.

Standard Apple ear plugs with iOS 8.1.2. And as I said, it is working in other applications as intended.

Does it work with phone calls?

No. It reverts to stereo. I hope it is not a feature. It would not make sense.

Interesting. Maybe it's a glitch with calling of all kinds. Or maybe they thought you'd want stereo? idk
