My wife has my old 9.7 pro whereas I am using a 2018 11 pro.
if I am having a FaceTime call with my her, sometimes, and intermittently, all I can hear on my iPad is a very very loud cracking noise, like static or white noise.
No problems if she answers with her phone, or if I call other people on FaceTime, therefore the issue is definitely originating from the 9.7 pro.
She doesn’t hear the noise at all at her side, and she can hear me perfectly.
If we comunicate with Zoom everything works fine, therefore the problem is limited to FaceTime.

Any idea of what could be causing this? What I could be trying to eliminate the problem?
Does anyone else experience similar problems with a 9.7 pro?
We cannot be absolutely certain, but the issue seem to have started with the latest iPadOS update.

Thanks

Have you tested to see if the problem appears in Google Meet, Skype, or Microsoft Teams?

I haven’t. The point of trying with Zoom was to rule out hardware problems with the microphone, which I have.
I am open to it, but why do you think trying other systems over and above Zoom might help me diagnose this problem?

Also have you tried Facetime with someone else who is using a different iPad?

I did a quick Apple Discussions search and found this has been an issue even back to iOS 12 (and maybe earlier), with no solutions suggested. You may want to contact Apple Support.

It's another damper on the "Experience".
I have been using a homepod via my Xs to make calls to someone on a 7plus and I get a loud short crackle once every 15mins or so during the call.
There are other issues such as call dropping and volume attenuation.
Apple need more emphasis on the quality of the experience.. Ime, this has dropped over the years.

I FaceTime all the time with my 11 pro without any problems.
The only time I get the noise is when I am FaceTiming my wife on her 9.7 pro. If she uses the phone (Connected to the same WiFi), all is good.
