Last year I've had plenty of Facetime calls with my dad (Macbook Pro 2011 to
iPhone 4s).
The issues started suddenly last year. In October I purchased an iPhone 6.
iOS 8.1.2 is installed on both the iPhone 6 and the iphone 4s.

I've done a lot of research and tried a lot of things. It's just not possible to use Facetime anymore. Even when I'm using my Macbook Pro it's not working anymore.

Here's what always happens: we're both connected to Wifi. The Facetime call goes through, then it says "connecting..." . But nothing happens afterwards.

I can use Facetime with a friend of mine who also owns an iPhone 6 without any problems.

I can use Skype with my dad without any problems.

I don't know anymore what to do about Facetime...I would appreciate any help.

There's no issue with my internet. As I mentioned before...Skype works without any issues.

restart your router. Sometimes other things may work but Apple specific things may not.

For example, my buddy couldn't get Airdrop to work until he restarted his router even though everything else was working fine.

We just tried that...no success.

Try turning FaceTime on and off. It resets and mostly should work.

We've already tried that...no success.

Sounds like the problem then is on your dad's end and not yours.

The weird thing is that when I visited my dad & my mom recently we tried a Facetime call while both our iPhones were connected to the same Wifi. It worked.

So to sum it up:

My WiFi to my dad's WiFi: no connection
My dad's Wifi (his iPhone 4s) to my dad's WiFi (my iPhone 6): connection
My WiFi (iPhone 6) to my friend's WiFi (iPhone 6): connection

I still have no idea what the issue is. I asked my dad to try doing a Facetime call while being connected to another WiFi network. Let's see if that works...

Sounds like your dads router or Mac is blocking the FaceTime port. Did you check his router and/or Mac.
