It says I need to update. Why is this? I thought facetime worked on 4.01 and now I need to lose my jailbreak to get a default function to work?

Facetime on iphone 4.01 does not work with newest ipodtouch

As the iPod touch uses an email-based FaceTime system (rather than your iPhone's phone number based system), updates to your iPhone's default FaceTime 'app' to add support for email FTing is necessary.
You will find that iPhone to iPhone FaceTime still works without the update.
