Back in 2003, in Europe, Sony Ericsson Z1010 introduced a video call, and you didn't even need a wifi for that. It was advertised with huge fanfare, it worked great, everywhere you went, the only problem being after trying it couple of times, nobody really used it. Telcos even went that far to offer video calls for free, but users still rather paid for normal calls.

I wonder how much you guys use it. Please answer the poll.

Agree, I would do it if I knew how to make a poll lol.

I don;t know how to make a "poll lol", but for a simple "poll", you just start another thread, and then at the bottom tick the checkbox where it says "has poll", or somehting like that. Then, after you submit the thread you will get a screen where you create a poll, lol.

The only person I would remotely be interested in doing this with is my GF, and she has my old 3G, so that won't work. Skype on the computer is fine.

So far 20% uses it regularly, at least once a week. That's pretty huge I would say if it reflects the general population. However, I feel this forum attracts more tech savvy people so one cold argue that this number is much lower.

However, interesting fact is that 70% don't use it at all, apart from some initial investigation. Very small amount of people who use it sporadically, but frequently, only 10% of what I would call regular casual users.

Definitely it looks like SJ's enthusiasm about FT hasn't been transfered onto user mass.

Worked out good a few times when a family member had computer problems i was able to see the issue and correct it.

I've been using it weekly if not more ever since I left my girlfriend and son in California to in early December to start my training for our Deployment. I jailbroke so I'm not restricted to wifi only and I bought her a macbook last christmas. What's even more enjoyable, is her son will get on after he get's home from school and call me by himself.

I honestly thought it was a useless feature until this. I still plan on using facetime or skype overseas if we have any type of internet connectivity.

Well before everyone jumps onto the "facetime won't be used" bandwagon, I would like to point out to those to look into the history of the automobile, the train, the telephone, etc.
Facetime has only been out for less than a year, and only on 1 phone. I'm sure video calling, from cross platform units, will gain traction soon enough.

Heck, just look at how often kids now only text and won't call. To kids, texting has replaced calling. But they'll grow up soon enough and thing will change again.

OK - quick question to those using this as I'm very interested Android user looking very seriously at the iPhone. All of the video apps on the Android OS are add ons and not native, thus require a network connection to the service provider to "stay alive", which then kills the battery. Does FaceTime do this? I presume not since it seems to be apart of the dialer interface??

Add skype to the poll. I think most of us are using skype video calling from now on...

IMO Tango> Skype unless you to Skype iPhone to computer. I use FaceTime almost everyday it helps my partents see my son.

The reason FaceTime is only wifi is because Att network is to slow to handle FaceTime on 3G right now. When the next iPhone comes out Att wil have their HSPA+ up and running you will be able to use FaceTime on "4G"
