Odd.

When on WiFi and sending a text or MMS message, are you not docked messages against your account?

I would think the VOICE part of the call is still routed through cellular towers and the video is what is put through WiFi somehow?

Yet to see exactly how it is utilized....

Not really the same, as text and MMS are not sent as data, they're sent over the regular 2G network. I would seriously doubt that video and audio are not sent over the same medium! What if one went down? No way would video go over the internet and voice through the cell towers.

we can test this by putting the phone into airplane mode then turning on just wifi and see if a FaceTime call goes through.

Yup, I'm sure many people will be testing this exact scenario out when they get their phones next week. I know I will.

Yes, text and MMS don't go over wifi so your service provider charges you for those consistent with your contract.

FaceTime is through wifi so your phone service provider does not get to charge you at this time.

If you try sending the video and the audio over two very different networks I think you would find trying to link the two up again at the other end could be problematic.

Gotcha guys in reference to my earlier post.

First thing I am going to do is start a Facetime call, then unplug my router and see what happens. I am guessing the call will stop video and revert directly to the 3G network, voice only?

No the call will be cut off.
