When I used FCP back in 2007, I seem to remember there was a way to fade in a clip. Is there a way to do that in the current version? Like with keyframes for volume with audio. Can you set up keyframes for visual effects also? Please share how.

I see how to add keyframes via Video Animation, but other than the opacity at the bottom, it doesn't let me arrange them on the Y axis (higher and lower). They just all sit horizontally. Any advice? Thank you.

Are you talking about stacking clips vertically and fading them in and out? The first clip that you add goes into the timeline... the next clip can go at the end of the first (which would play after the first clip ends) OR above the first clip... and the third clip can go to the right horizontally or anywhere above the first clip... only backgrounds or generators can go below the main line in the timeline.

You can then fade in/out any of the clips or adjust opacity to do a "double exposure" effect... and the clops needn't be stacked one on top of the other, they can be staggered, if that's your desire.

Is that what you are asking?

Maybe, with what you said about 'double exposure. I'm not sure. What I'm asking is: Let's take a given clip of a candle burning. I want to use keyframes to apply an effect gradually, over a given length of time. Say five seconds. So, the color effect or exposure setting fades in from low to high, based on how I arrange the keyframes. Like you do with volume automation. Thank you in advance for any help with that.
