So I have a failed Apple SSD which I posted about here. I replaced it with a OWC 1TB Drive and at first I was annoyed because it had no TRIM support natively, and secondly it appeared SMART Diagnostics are disabled or limited on this unit. Other than being slow while doing something like extracting Xcode tools from archive to Applications folder, it is a very stable drive and my system sleeps and recovers from sleep fine.
With the prior SSD I would like to note some failure symptoms I was having was that the SMC/Fans would kick on without turning off unless you closed the lid on the machine for 20 seconds or so. This has been resolved with the OWC ssd and no longer occurs.
I almost wish I would have bought a 2TB Model.
Very happy with the purchase, And their generous 5 years warranty and the fact they will stock this part for another 5 years minimum for me. If I get another 5 years out of this MacBook I will be very happy.
Outside of the slow multi-IO operations, It seems like a very stable product!
The price is a little up there for what you get but the warranty seems exceptional.
($329.00 for the 2TB Model, Comes to roughly 440 Canadian shipped.) Thats a lot for 2TB of slow SSD memory.
I'll be watching for a sale on their 2TB model in the future, though, I am sold on the sexy external they sent me with the Drive.
Anyone on the forum want to study a dead 256GB Samsung ssd? Let me know, Ill ship.
