Everything else seems good so far, except the bottom of the screen has almost a gray fade out effect, book binding I think it's called. Is this typical, or a "defect"?

Does it change when you change the angle of the display?

Nope, its constant at all angles. More apparent on white screens

Hmm. I noticed that somewhat on mine but it's very faint. I just chalked it up to not being a good viewing angle. If it is bad enough, exchange it for another.

I'd exchange it. If there's a problem with the screen at all it may get worse. The chip would bother me too, but not enough to exchange it. Any irregularities with the screen, however, and I'd be racing back to swap it out.
