Hello all, I'm a bit worried. I purchased a brand new iPad Air from a user on eBay for $438, thought the price was good so I went through with it. The user has 100% feedback and has been an eBay user since 2001, which made me feel confident that he had a history with eBay.

Now, my iPad Air gets here tomorrow, is there anything I should do to protect myself as a buyer just in case it's not real, or it was used and put back in the box and sold as new?

I'm looking for tips, maybe record a video of me opening the package? & is there a way to tell if an iPad Air is fake or real, or even if its been previously opened, or used?

Here's the listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171301236847?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.

You should've just bought an Apple refurb for $419 + tax. Free shipping, no concerns over quality.

But I'm sure its all fine. If there's something wrong, eBay overwhelmingly sides with the buyer.

I think you will be ok. Either way, you have a 30-60 money back guarantee through eBay and Paypal. You can open up a case with eBay and they will refund your money. I would ask the seller for the serial number and run it through the Apple self solve website to make sure it is valid. If it is new, there should be an Apple limited warranty on it still.

That's a fair good deal. I wouldn't worry about it. You can run the serial thru Apple to see if it's been registered before.

Looks like the real deal. Seller seems to have sold some Apple products recently, all with good feedback. As long as serial checks out, I see no issue. Ebay would probably side with you if a dispute arose.

Thanks for all the replies. A lot of you mentioned to check the serial, where can I find the serial number on the iPad Air and is there a website where I can check if the serial number has been previously used, etc?

Serial should be on the box and on the iPad. Contact seller, they may be able to give it to you in advance. Here is where you can check.

I guess if you're really worried then check the serial # on the iPad Air box and ensure it matches with the iPad Air (found under Settings > General > About). Once they match you can then input the serial with what firedept provided and you should be good!

So you didn't get it yet, and already concerned it's a fake iPad? That's not a good way to start.

Just a little update guys: The box serial did match the iPad Air's serial number and I did a serial check through the site and got:

Kind of surprised your 1 year warranty actually started on the date you purchased it on EBay. Because it doesn't look like they are an authorized Apple reseller. So I would have expected warranty to start when they originally purchased it. Well better for you.

I bought my 13" cMBP Early 2011, from a reseller around Black Friday 2011. Warranty lasted until Nov 2012.
