How are these fake leather cases from ebay? Anyone try them out? Obviously quality will be different from Apple, but I don't need something that will last over a year - lifespan is okay with it being a few months.

I have one as well as a real one. I’ll be making a comparison video soon. In the meantime, the one I got, doesn’t have the metal buttons even though it looks like it does on the pics. The fit is great and the feel in the hand is good. The lip on the camera cutout doesn’t match the color of the case (I have a light blue case and the lip is black). But I noticed the listing you posted may have those 2 things rectified. It’s a great option at a low price point especially if you don’t want the case to develop a patina as the PU leather won’t do that.

Does it seem like as likely or unlikely to scratch your phone as the original?

Also lack of patina and feel and lack of metal buttons aside, does it look a lot like a real *new* leather case?

It is total cr@p and will peel as it ages revealing the fabric underneath.

This can be true depending on how you care for your phone. I had mine for about a month on my 7+ and it looked good as new the whole time. I gave it to my son and it looked horrible after one week. One of the buttons fell out (they were the metallic ones on that case) and it started peeling at multiple points (because my son dropped the phone a lot). Basically it looked trashed out but it was because of the abuse. The real leather takes a beating much more elegantly.

It is not any more likely to scratch your phone than the genuine leather case. And yes, depending on which color you get, it looks very much like the real one. I’m pretty sure nobody but diehard hard Apple accessory fan would notice or point it out.

We should not support the counterfeit criminals. Plus these fakes are made in the one and only China. I rather spend more coz you get what you pay for. My original Apple.com iPhone 6s Plus case lasted 4 years
