I was given a gen 0 Apple Watch with no charger and bought the cheapest puck I could find on Amazon
What a piece of crap, at one point the watch overheated while ‘charging’

My personal experience buying watch band.

Original: book appointment in the store, come back for appointment, wait 20-30 minutes, put mask, pay $69
Fake: walk in, pay $19, leave.

I came to buy original. Walked away with fake.

I need to buy ipad charger now. Apple store is the last place to visit.

In Dan's video at 6:40, YOU ARE SHAKING IT WRONG, DAN 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️!!!!!!!!!!!
You are supposed to hold and shake THE MAGSAFE MOUNT to see if the iPhone falls off, NOT hold and shake the iPhone to see if the mount falls off because that's not how you would use it in a car in real life.

Anyone who hasnt watched the video must watch that 6:40 part, it's simply hilarious.
Agreed. The real test is to mount your phone in the car and then drive down a bumpy road.

I can smell a lawsuit coming as third party manufacturers are intentionally locked out of utilizing higher charging speeds.
Give it a few years until millions are sold — then the class action lawsuit shall begin

Here in the US, I mainly buy Apple stuff from 3 retailers: Apple, Best Buy, and B&H. Way too many fakes at Amazon.
Amazon is fine as long as it’s branded Apple and sold by Amazon. Amazon signed a deal with Apple to become an official seller a few years after they got sued selling counterfeits. Anything you buy now should be official and genuine.

Come on....Most of us want to buy the parts we need at he lowest price. Apple dongles and wires are often very overpriced and cheap. Third party items are sometimes better than the equivalent Apple products. Fake parts.... Nah, just overpriced hype.

I wonder if the fake MagSafe charger leaves burn marks on your case and phone just like the real one does.

For example this one is fake, magsafe animation when you connect to supported brick, and definitely 15W for $20.

I don't care about the speed as I charge when I sleep. I will happily take a knock off given the malignant price gouging of this product.

I’m looking to buy the official MagSafe charger for my phone to get the 15w charging speed. But if I remember correctly, is a specific power adapter needed? I thought I remember an article here stating that even if a power adapter is well above the 15w, it may not be compatible, and drop down to slower speeds.

You only need the original Magsafe (Duo or the puck) to enjoy the promised speed. You can use 3rd party USB-C adapter so as long it supports USB PD 3.0 at 9V at 3A. Apple's 20 watts only support 9V at 2.22A which resides 11-12 watts for the Magsafe.

I bought myself a 3rd party USB-C GaN adapter for less than $20. Similar price with Apple's 20watts? Sure but for the money I got 2 USB-C ports and 1 USB-A with 65 watts of max power. So I use one port for Magsafe Duo (provides 30 watts so I can enjoy 15watts of Magsafe charging), the other for USB-C cable for iPad Pro or Macbook Air, and 1 free USB-A for whatever emergencies.

Speed is great for a wireless. So yeah, get the Magsafe from Apple, but wall adapter from another.

And I can smell the smoke of overheated fake chargers

about getting electrocuted?
No, mainly the iPhone end breaking apart and getting stuck in the lightning port. I’d really like those for our kids who fray cables left and right but I’ll take a broken cable over fishing pieces of magnets out of a lightning port!

I remember my troubles with the old magsafe 2 chargers from years back. Apple's authentic Magsafe were just as reliable as fake chargers, which is to say, NOT very reliabile. I count no fewer than 6 authentic and 4 fake chargers over 7 years -- they averaged 8-11 months. There were at least 1 authentic Apple Magsafe and 1 fake fires that destroyed the chargers; others died of frayed cables and other unknown quick natural causes. The Magsafe chargers were great if you never moved around with your MacBook Pro and fixed them to to your desk forever; unfortunately most mobile users like myself had to deal with Apple's poor design and build quality. I believe it was also one of the lowest rated Apple accessories on Apple store until the company removed all comments and ratings not too long ago.
