Well then the user needs to qualify the comparison as „for me …“; which usually doesn‘t happen. Most of these ad-hoc comparisons claim to be objective/exhaustive but really aren‘t.

But sure, if all the features you need are served by something else, by all means get something else.

I think we can all agree that you have a valid point here. Until one sees that qualifier added or an objective measurement being linked to one has to take most posts here as individual opinion piece with a huge grain of salt.

I need to wear my mechanical watches more often. I’ve become too reliant on a routine of wearing my Apple Watch regardless of how useful it is. I don’t get the same level of enjoyment and satisfaction aesthetically from a popular smartwatch. I feel like I’m forgetting why I’ve loved wrist watches for decades and from now on I’m going to add them back into my rotation.

Despite how much am loving the "Unlock with Apple Watch" feature, might have to follow suit.
You know what, starting tomorrow!

Or the user in question just doesn’t see value in these or doesn’t use them. For some they add up to a super useful product but not necessarily everyone.
This. I don't have a MacBook and use a Surface Pro for work so the unlocking feature isn't an issue for me

I am surprised apple just doesnt sell an apple pay band - no features but apple pay which would mean a stellar battery life and dirt cheap like 10 quid or so......I know a lot of people who would be in.

The two killer things for me ? The silent alarm which wakes up no-one else but has woken me without fail for 2 years at 533am and the fact I can go for a swim , come up the beach and get a lovely hot coffee without having to drag along cash or a phone...

First watch I have ever had in 55 years.....
That's a pretty killer morning as well - Swim in the ocean and coffee :)

I have some nice mechanical watches so some days I have those on, but the ApplePay feature and silent alarm is so damn nice

I just wish I’d got the titanium version instead of my stainless-steel graphite , mainly due to the weight
I have a Titanium S7 and had the SS S4 before that - I know on paper it's a bit lighter, but not really something I think a lot about.

Been there, tried it. FOMO of not having all the stats of the day is something that was constantly bugging me, and the two watch approach is ridiculous.

Sadly, I’ve reached a conclusion that mechanical watches, as much as I love(d) them, have reached the same point as my turntable/vinyl/valve amp set - something I’ll always be fond of but doesn’t have a place in my daily life anymore.

The Apple Watch has always been in a weird spot for me. I‘ve had a bunch of them, always traded them in / sold them and then usually wanted another one at some point.

It‘s the kind of device I don‘t really feel like I actively use a lot, but when it‘s gone I do miss some of its features.

I get the „falling out of love“ bit though, it‘s just not a device that enables a lot of things you wouldn‘t be able to do otherwise, it‘s more like the ultimate convenience that requires you to look at your phone less.

I have the same feeling! While I do understand that being disconnected is relaxing for some, it's the opposite for me. I like to know what's going on. I guess we're all wired a little differently.

Agreed on the mechanical watches. I have a collection that I'm fond of, but they really don't fit what I need in my life right now. I try to wear one of them when my Apple Watch is charging, but once the AW is changed, I put it right back on my wrist.

I’ve been making an effort since I made my previous statement and 2 days a week I leave my Apple Watch on the nightstand. I’d forgotten how nice it is to wear a proper nice looking watch and not be bothered by every notification coming through. It’s lovely to look at my iPhone after a few hours and see a few things I have blissfully missed. I went to a wedding yesterday and it was cool to have a discussion about watches as myself and quite a few others had nice watches rather than the usual smartwatches. It’s not for everyone though I completely understand and I rather like that to be honest.

Last week, I wore one of my mechanical watches (a large Invicta). Oddly, the weight of it hurt my wrist a little. Rather unusual that. And, I love large watches.

All that to say, for the past few days, I haven't worn a mechanical or smart watch! It actually felt nice.

There is no need to "love" these things. It either works for you as a tool or it doesn't.

I am at the point where some days I wear it and some days I don't. I don't rely on it for much at this point, so I upgrade rarely (Series 0 -> Series 4). I had cellular on the 4 for awhile, dropped it as I just don't care to be notified or in reach when I am away from my phone.

Features I use:
  • Workouts/heart rate
  • Decibel meter
On the days or times I need these, I put the watch on. Otherwise I don't.

I would classify the need for stats as unhealthy behavior, FOMO as someone called it. Feels sort of like those folks are thinking: "If I workout but my Apple Watch didn't track it, did I really workout?" Which is, I'm sorry, objectively strange. No device should have that kind of power over your life.
