Hey, just downloaded 10.5.5 and OS X supports 256 colors again so Fallout will run. I haven't tried Fallout 2 yet. Anyways, just thought I would post this in case someone misses fallout as much as I did. :)

Which Mac model are you using? Does it use Intel Integrated Graphics, specifically the X3100?

This is news? Fallout 1 worked just fine in 10.4.X. I use to play it on my MB before it got stolen.

Yes, unfortunately. Things were good up to 10.5.2. Starting with 10.5.3, Apple removed 256 (8-bit) colour support from the display drivers, affecting Macs with Intel Integrated Graphics or Nvidia chips. 10.5.5 restores 256 colour mode for the Nvidia chips, but still nothing for Intel Integrated Graphics.

Not entirely true: They removed it from the GMA X3100 only; the GMA 950 was unaffected.

(I was able to play Starcraft on my mini (GMA950) without any trouble, but I had to boot into Windows in order to play on my MacBook (GMAX3100). But now there's a patch out for SC so it's not a problem anymore.)

About a year ago or so I played both fallout 1 and fallout 2 in tiger. They were awesome.

However, (and I think this was the case with BOTH of them, but definitely at least fallout 1), I was unable to view the ending cinematics.

As you may know, the ending cinematics in Fallout are dependent on the choices you make during the game, so it's not even like I could go on youtube and find a copy of them there or something - they'll be different for everyone.

To reiterate, I was using Tiger, and it was on an intel mac.

The game played fine... and I think the intro movies were fine as well. But I couldn't get the ending cinematics to play.
